Fundraising and Communications Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Fundraising and Communications Coordinator (FCC) reports to the Executive Director and plays an important role in the planning and implementation of Amani’s fundraising efforts and external communications.
Amani Children’s Home is seeking a highly organized, hard-working, positive, and creative self-starter who is looking to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. The ideal candidate has great skills in interacting and connecting with people; is passionate about children’s rights; is comfortable managing multiple competing priorities in a demanding work environment (multi-tasking); has an aptitude for technology; and is a highly skilled writer and editor (both formal and semi-formal).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communication with donors/sponsors (individuals, groups, foundations); Relational marketing and fundraising
- Responding to info@amanikids.org
- Write and generate donor/sponsors acknowledgement letters
- Manage short-term volunteer program
- Meet with visitors/tourists who come to Amani, and show them around
- Prepare and send out bimonthly e-newsletters
- Update and edit the content of the website
- Assist Friends of Amani members internationally with fundraising initiatives, as well as other supporters interested in fundraising
- Produce marketing materials
- Manage Amani’s Alternative Gift Card fundraiser
- Assist the Director with fundraising initiatives, including grant applications to foundations
- Collaborate with the Director on a variety of other tasks
- Participate as a member of the Amani staff team
- Supervise two staff in the Communications Department: the Marketing Assistant/Volunteer Manager, and the Donor Database Manager, and their related programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least two years of (advanced) fundraising and/or non-profit communications experience
- Superior written and oral communication skills; ample experience in writing/editing for marketing purposes
- Solid computer skills and aptitude for learning new applications, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Creative Suite Software a plus
- International experience and second language skills highly desired
- Strong organizational and multi-task project management skills
- History of demonstrating initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work independently
- Goal and results-oriented, resourceful, flexible, positive, and good-humored
- Comfortable working in an intercultural workplace
- Commitment to Amani’s mission and values
- Commitment of at least two years (pref. at least four years)
About Amani Children’s Home:
Amani Children’s Home, located in Moshi, Tanzania, rescues street children and provides a safe and caring home, education, and healthcare so they can heal, learn, and grow into self-reliant adults. Founded in 2001, Amani has helped hundreds of children over the years. Amani presently supports 200 children, 80 living at the home, and the rest placed with their families locally. Salary and Benefits:
Comfortable salary for living in Moshi, Tanzania, (basic) international health insurance, flight into/out of Tanzania on start and completion of employment, one round-trip airplane ticket to/from country of origin per year, four weeks paid vacation per year, move-in stipend (including basic furnishings), three months of Swahili lessons, work mobile phone and monthly minutes.
