Locally known as the Walter Reed Southern Highlands AIDS Program, the Henry Jackson Foundation Medical Research International (HJFMRI) is an international non-governmental organization working in several countries conducting research studies and providing care and treatment to people affected by HIV/AIDS.  HJFMRI is funded by the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief PEPFAR.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHSW), HJFMRI has been leading a comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and treatment program in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania since 2004 with support from the President’s Emergency Plans for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).  The program is based in the Mbeya and has since extended to more than 100 health facilities in Mbeya, Rukwa and Ruvuma regions, which collectively represent a catchment area of about 6 million people.  Mbeya region is one of high prevalence regions in Tanzania and expansion of HIV care and treatment programs is critical.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Position:                 Research Data Assistants (2 Positions)
Reports to:               BPE Coordinator
Location:                  Mbeya

Position Overview
The Walter Reed Program/Henry Jackson Foundation Medical Research International (WRP/HJFMRI) funded through the Department of Defense under PEPFAR works to support HIV/AIDS Prevention, testing, care and treatment services in the regions of Mbeya, Rukwa, Ruvuma and Katavi in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. As it implements these activities WRP/HJFMRI is evaluating their impact through PEPFAR Implementation Science Studies. The aim is to establish a causal relationship between program and impact by comparing actual impact to what would have happened in the absence of the program, the counterfactual scenario. With this in mind, WRP/HJFMRI seeks to fill the position of a Research Data Assistant.

The candidate will work under the supervision of the Research Director to assist in carrying out different activities related to evaluations of different research aspects of the program. This will include carrying out field visits to review and collect relevant data for program evaluations. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in training on data collection, protocol activities, and other duties as assigned by the Research Director. He/she will be required to work closely with other teams in the program that include but are not limited to the M & E, Medical, Laboratory and Outreach Departments of the Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Review and Collect Data at facilities for analysis purposes
• Enter and Post all monitoring data from facilities into respective database.
• Prepare and report the data entry status on weekly/monthly/semi-annual and yearly for program use.
• Make queries {for specific periods on data collected for a specific period and cross check it with the data on source documents.
• Prepare, compile and sort documents for data entry for reporting issues.
• Check source documents for accuracy
• Cross check & verify data from source documents and correct were necessary
• Communicate with facilities and gather information for any incomplete data information.
• Keep and safe custody of all data entered in designated locations
• Comply with data integrity and security policies

Qualifications:
The suitable candidate should:
• Have a certificate in data analysis or equivalent relevant training.
• Have basic knowledge on data collection and analysis.
• Have basic knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation Principles and Procedures.
• Have a basic understanding and knowledge of data analysis packages like EXCEL, STATA and/or SPSS.  
• Good mastery of written and spoken English
• Other skills or experience in Basic Research are an added advantage.

• Organizational skills
• Ability to work in a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• High degree of commitment
• Results oriented i.e. with the ability to meet deadlines with competing priorities.
