Mikocheni Agricultural Research Institute (MARl) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries is coordinating a research project, which is funded by the "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation" (BMGF) through Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development, Egerton University, Kenya titled "Varietal/Zonal Monitoring of Realized Productivity and Value in Tanzania". The project is implemented in collaboration with Cholima AGRO Scientific Research Center (ARI-Chollima and Uyole Agricultural Research Institute Tanzania (ARI-Uyole). MARI will use part of the project funds to recruit on a fixed contract basis a highly qualified and motivated persons to fill the following posts:
2. POSITION: Research assistant (1 Post)
Key duties and responsibilities
• Collect/receive samples for DNA isolation from field surveys and record maintain good record (data base)
• Process samples prior to DNA isolation according to approved standard procedure
• Isolate DNA and perform all required quality checks
• Maintain physical library for reference materials of the project's commodity crops
• Perform PCR and other required assays as per project coordinator instructions.
• Help with laboratory works related to DNA fingerprinting
• Carry out other duties as may be assigned by the Project coordinator and laboratory manager.
Qualification and Experience:
. Bachelor's degrees from Sokoine University of Agriculture or University of Dar es Salaam or any other recognised university with specialization in at least one of the following fields: biotechnology, agriculture, molecular biology or biology, or-plant sciences. The candidate should not be more than 35 years old.
Contract period: 1 year
