Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the position of Research Associate.
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a member of a world-wide network of International Agricultural Research Centers. IITA's research focuses on smallholder cropping systems in sub-Saharan Africa. IITA has a regional hub in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania which co-ordinates the work of the institute in East Africa.
Duty Station: This is a Nationally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based in Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania
Responsibilities:
Plan, design and implement socio economic survey in various project areas
• Training of data enumerators for research surveys;
• Supervision of data collection activities;
• Data management; entry, cleaning and analysis, and production of clean database from various data collection
• Production of good quality analytical reports;
Ensure adequate maintenance, protection and functioning of scientific assets in the socioeconomic unit;
• Provide leadership to junior staff and visiting students in the socioeconomic unit;
• Assist scientists in the preparation of conferences, scientific report, and presentations as it may be required;
Qualification and Experience
• MSc degree in Agricultural Economics or equivalent from a recognized university
• Strong skills in farm and business management, economic theory, qualitative and quantitative methods communication and technical writing
• At least two years of research experience
Additional requirements:
• The successful candidate must be able to work independently, with minimum supervision and able to meet deadlines.
• The job requires extensive travels in remote areas and thus he/she must be willing to stay in the villages/fields when required. The candidate should be able to perform well under pressure and in a multicultural and multi-institutional environment.
General information:
The initial contract for the position is for two years: renewable subject to performance and availability of funds. The duty station for the position will be IITA in Dar es Salaam. This is a nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
