Mikocheni Agricultural Research Institute (MARl) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries is coordinating a research project, which is funded by the "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation" (BMGF) through Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development, Egerton University, Kenya titled "Varietal/Zonal Monitoring of Realized Productivity and Value in Tanzania". The project is implemented in collaboration with Cholima AGRO Scientific Research Center (ARI-Chollima and Uyole Agricultural Research Institute Tanzania (ARI-Uyole). MARI will use part of the project funds to recruit on a fixed contract basis a highly qualified and motivated persons to fill the following posts:
1. Research analyst (1 POST)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The analytic data manager will work under the project advisor and project coordinator to develop strategies for managing and usage of project data. He/she will be' responsible to supervise enumerators during data collection, inspect data sheets clarity, data cleaning and perform basic analysis using approved statistical software package.
Specifically, the successful candidate will:
• Develop and-improve tools to evaluate quality of data collected by enumerators during field surveys.
• Assemble and analyse field data using approved statistical package
• Ensure project data are accurate, complete and up to date.
• Provide analytical interpretation of data.
• Train NARS research assistants how to use the available data analysis tools.
Essential skills and Experience
• Strong background in applied mathematics, statistics, agricultural economics and/or agronomy
• Should have good numeracy and writing skills; conversant with data management and analytical software (primarily statistical packages)
• Demonstrated experience applying statistics to analyze large field data sets.
• . Ability to work with scientists to define needs requirements and priorities.
• Demonstrated analytical skills sufficient to troubleshoot complex system and data analysis problems and make recommendations. .
• Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Conscientiousness and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results;
• Self-development professionally and personally and initiative taking
Qualification and Experience
The holder of this position must be a Tanzanian citizen, 25-35 years old, with a minimum of a Master degree from a recognised University with specialization in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Agricultural Economics and/or Agronomy. Must have good knowledge of computer and data processing software's such as (SPSS). Good knowledge of using mobile devices for data collection e.g. Android tablets programmed with the open Data Kit (ODK platform)
Contract period: 1 Year
