The Institute of African Leadership for Sustainable Development (UONGOZI Institute) seeks to inspire leaders and promote the recognition of the important role of leadership in sustainable development within Africa. It provides training to leaders from Tanzania and beyond, organizes high-level policy forums and dialogues, and carries out research on leadership and sustainable development.
The Business Development Unit (BDU) is a new unit established to support the Institute to develop new business, mobilize resources and respond to demand driven programs.
JOB SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be responsible for prospecting for business opportunities, resource mobilization, implementation of demand driven programs, and maintaining sound relationships with stakeholders. The Business Development Manager reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of Business Development Manager shall include the following:-
Provide overall leadership to the Business Development Unit;
Prospecting for new business opportunities;
Leading and driving new business development and resource mobilization initiatives;
Exploring and building beneficial partnerships to further the objectives of UONGOZI Institute;
Developing and maintaining sound relationships with the Institute’s partners, funding agencies and
donors;
Developing plans and budgets to facilitate new business development;
Developing modalities for implementing joint projects with UONGOZI Institute partners and funding
agencies;
Negotiating with partners and funding agencies/donors on implementation plans;
Mobilizing resources to support the implementation of high impact programs;
Monitoring and evaluating implementation of demand driven programs;
Managing performance of the BDU staff and supporting their career growth;
Production and distribution of progress reports; and,
Undertaking any other relevant duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
At the minimum, the Business Development Manager should have:
A Master’s degree in business management, finance or other relevant area.
A minimum of 10 years of work experience, with 5 years at senior management level.
Proven experience in resource mobilization and fund raising.
Experience in project/programme identification and formulation.
Experience in forming partnerships.
Experience in interacting with high-level individuals from government, private sector and funding
agencies.
Experience in interacting with international actors.
Experience in contract negotiations.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Business orientation
Excellent communication skills (oral and writing)
Positive attitude
Good conceptualizations skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to act diplomatically in challenging situations
Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili
