The International Rescue Committee (IRC) coordinates the provision of services across a broad spectrum of sectors in Kigoma Region, Tanzania. This position is responsible for supporting the Youth & Development activities in Nyarugusu refugee camp in Kasulu District. This position reports to the Youth & Development Supervisor (YD-S) and assists with the supervision of refugee incentive staff.
Position: Youth and Development Officer (01 post)
Reporting to: Youth and Development Supervisor
Location: Nyarugusu, Kasulu
Program Responsibilities:
a) Support the YD-S in the management and implementation of youth and development activities in Nyarugusu refugee camp
b) Supervise all youth overalls livelihood activities in the camp,
c) Support the YD-S to identify social needs and problems of vulnerable youth and identify appropriate responses.
d) Organize cultural, sports and recreational activities for youth in camps, in collaboration with incentive staff and community groups.
e) Support youth activities with particular focus on ASRH and HIV/AIDs issues, liaising with Health IP in the camp and IRC’s GBV sector as appropriate.
f) Support the process of referrals through identifying and reporting referral needs to the Supervisor or as directed by Supervisor
g) Support the incentive staff and community groups to run safe spaces for youth within the camps, where they can express themselves freely and take on leadership roles.
h) Plan and conduct meetings, trainings and awareness campaigns in relation to youth development activities.
i) Ensure youth participation at all stages of programming.
j) Monitor activities conducted by the refugee social workers in the camp.
k) Provide guidance and support to refugee social workers on community mobilization, counseling, recreational activities and other youth and development activities.
l) Coordinate with other IRC sectors and NGOs present in the camp in community mobilization, referral systems, and create awareness in an integrated manner.
m) Track indicators and prepare and submit activity reports to the YD-S.
n) Prepare work plans, proposals and monthly/donor reports in collaboration with the YD-S and/or other programs staff as requested.
Requirements:
a) Diploma in social work or relevant social science with at least 1 years relevant work experience; OR at least 3 years relevant work experience.
b) Experience working with children and youth, and especially vulnerable youth desirable.
c) Basic IT skills: knowledge of MS Word; Excel and Outlook required
d) Swahili and Basic English skills required. French a plus.
