POSITION: TRUCK DRIVER/LABORER

The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Truck Driver/Laborer in the General Services Section-Warehouse Unit.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Operates 5 tons, 20 to 40 foot truck and other passenger flat bed truck. Assist with laborer duties.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
50%
Drives large truck to residences, embassy and other locations on deliveries of furniture, party supplies, and other large items.
45%
Assists in regular laborer duties including moving furniture, delivering requested items, cleaning warehouse, setting up for events and other tasks as directed by supervisor.
5%
Attends driving training courses and acts as duty driver as needed by Motorpool.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Education: Completion of Primary School is required.
2. Prior Work Experience: Two years driving experience is required.
3. Language proficiency: Level III (good working knowledge) in English and Level IV (fluent) in Kiswahili (speaking, writing and reading) is required.
4. Knowledge: Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns. Should have thorough knowledge of roads and streets of Dar es Salam and be familiar with simple auto mechanics.
5. Skills and Abilities: Must be capable of performing fairly arduous work, including heavy lifting. Must have driver’s license Class C, D and E. Must be able to learn proper operations of the vehicle radios.
SELECTION PROCESS
When fully qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and US Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
