• Introduce yourself, explaining who you are and for who you are working in a manner that facilitates the participation of individuals in the data collection process;
• Explain the purpose and objectives of the data collection exercise to all study participants and encourage them to participate in the data collection;
• Ensure informed consent to each research participant/respondent before asking questions;
• Collect all required data according to the instruction give during training and probe questions to clarify unclear answers where necessary;
• Visit/interview all assigned study participants, ask all questions and record answers expects those passed over by skip techniques;
• Ensure privacy and confidentiality for each participant throughout the interview and discussions;
• Take care of all materials disposed to him/her during the data collection;
• Review all data collection to make sure all relevant spaces are filled;
• Revisit and verify answers with study participants if the supervisor has questions after reviewing the questionnaire and data;
• Participate in every day discussions during data collection and pay attention to debriefings by the study team leader;
• Recognize and give an account of problems in obtaining data during the assessment and other challenges encountered, as to support evaluation of data collection mechanism;
• Prepare reports based on the data collection exercise;
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor during the data collection period;
Desired qualifications:
• Diploma/Certificate in Community Development & Social Work (minimum); or a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Sociology, Development Studies or other related social sciences;
• Prior experience in household surveys, client surveys, baseline and endline surveys, computer assisted telephone interviewing (an added advantage) for International NGOs, government institutions, private consultancy firms or market research companies;
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili;
• Willingness to work in rural settings under an intensive work schedule;
• Strong interpersonal relations, including having the ability to create and effectively maintain a good working relationship with other team members and study participants;
• Able to write clearly and keep neat and accurate records;
• Passionate about working with grassroots communities and at the service of women, children and other vulnerable groups;
• Humility, initiate and honesty.
