Job purpose:
Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited is a private limited liability company owned by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The company publishes Tanzania's leading newspapers Daily News, Sunday News, Habarileo and Habarileo Jumapili. Online editions of these newspapers can be accessed on the website wVYw.dailynews-tsn.com and www.habarileo.co.tz. It owns modern printing and pre-press facilities and has an elaborate product distribution network.
Suitably qualified Tanzanians are invited to join our family in the following position:
The incumbent will be immediate assistant to the Managing
Editor. S/He/ will be the Head of Editorial Department managing the English and Swahili publications as well as Online editions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advises and assists' the Managing Editor in the day-to-day running of company operations.
Coordinates implementation of management decisions and performance of departmental heads.
Ensures efficient management of editorial operations.
Monitors and documents editorial performance.
Coordinates production of exclusive news for company publications.
Coordinates efficient performance of bureau offices.
Proper deployment of newsroom staff.
Develops capacity for analytical and investigative reporting.
Enforces deadlines for submission of news stories.
Regularly reviews the editorial content and packaging of company publications. '
Plans daily, weekly, monthly and long-term news coverage for company publications.
Checks facts and raises queries with news editors and writers.
Liaises with departmental' heads on the overall performance of the company.
Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with theManaging Editor.
Conducts open performance review and appraisal of subordinates and gives feedback.
Performs any other duties as assigned from time to time by the Managing Editor.
Entry Qualifications and Advancement
Direct Entry Qualifications
Holder of an MNMSc in Journalism or its equivalent from a recognized institution. S/he must have at least 12 years' relevant work experience, six (6) of which must have been in a senior managerial position.
Skills and Personal Attributes
Must have good command of .English and Kiswahili, both written and spoken.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc).
Ability to plan and work to strict deadlines.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent knowledge of the newspaper industry.
Deep knowledge of editorial theory and best editorial practices. .
Proactive and independent.
Flexibility and stress-resistance
