The WASH program in Tanzania contributes to increasing access to water and sanitation and improving hygiene with a focus in 3 sub-areas: Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene for All (SSH4A) in rural areas, Functionality of Rural Water Supply Services (FWSS) and WASH in schools.
SNV’s Rural-SSH4A focuses on accelerating progress in access to sanitation and hygiene in rural areas by building the capacity of local governments to achieve full sanitation coverage. Capacity is built through steering and implementing sanitation demand creation, strengthening sanitation markets, implementing hygiene behavioral change communication (BCC) and improving targeting, planning, monitoring and regulation (WASH governance).
SNV is seeking qualified candidates for 2 officers for the position of Sanitation and Hygiene project officers (SPO). In collaboration with the Sanitation Project Manager, the SPOs will develop and steer implementation of sanitation demand creation, sanitation marketing, behavioral change communication (BCC) and WASH governance activities in selected districts in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities of the SPOs will include:
- Strengthen the capacity for steering and implementation of sanitation demand creation activities at scale through CLTS.
- lead development of market-based solutions to improve access to affordable sanitation hardware and services (including sanitation marketing, supply chain development, inclusive business)
- Lead the development and implementation of a behavioural change strategy in close collaboration with partners, and guide joint monitoring and feedback efforts.
- Lead the stakeholder engagement required to fully integrate SNV sanitation coverage targets into governmental planning and budgeting, thus ensuring responsible governmental commitments to support sanitation efforts.
Candidate Profile:
- Relevant advanced academic qualification in public health or related field;
- 3 years of relevant experience in sanitation service delivery;
- Up to date knowledge and experience in rural sanitation and hygiene and in at least 3 of the flowing fields: CLTS, sanitation marketing, BCC and/or sanitation governance
- Proven track record in project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting
- Established sanitation networks and experience working with local government authorities
- Actively focused on achieving results and working independently
- Good oral and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili
- Good interpersonal skills
Salary Scale: SNV Tanzania Scales
Languages: Proficient in English.
Contract Duration: 3 years renewable
Desired start date: 15th May, 2014
