Our client is a public international orqanization that addresses critical issues such as international food security, the alleviation of global hunger and poverty, environmental protection and the promotion of economic development and self-sufficiency. The organization's focus is on increasing productivity across the agricultural value chain in developing countries.

BRiTEN on behalf of its client an international non-profit is recruiting for the following positions for a maize and rice value chain project that has two years of project life.

Project Assistant - Job No.IF/NA/14/05

Location: Dar es Salaam

General Overview
The primary responsibility of the Project Assistant will be to assist the existing project staff collect, collate and analyze field operation data including demonstration plot results and to draft and compile work plans, monthly and quarterly reports for submission to donor as per the standards.
S/he will assist project staff in the organization and delivery of training, field days and other events.
Other responsibilities will include the followings:
Ensure that periodical reports are organized, compiled and submitted to concerned parties on tirne.
Collect information and data from key partners and stakeholders (farmer organizations, private companies, retailers, wholesalers and public institutions, etc.) throughout the input value chain.
Analyze quantitative and qualitative information on input supply and field demonstrations, crop production and develop draft technical reports.
Establishes methods for electronic data capture using different phone and other technologies,
Ensure all travel requests and program for consultants and expatriate staff is arranged as per the work plan on time. Assist project staff in organizing meetings and training and develop technical reports.
Any other duties and responsibilities, falling within the appointee's general purview and professional domain, as may be assigned from time to time.
Provide direct support to all team members in training preparation, rollout and evaluation.
Work closely with finance and administration to ensure timely monthly financial returns and reconciliation is done with field officers.

Basic Qualifications
Education; university Degree in agricultural economics, agribusiness or a related discipline
Work experience; At least three - five (5) years practical experience with a reputable organization
Demonstrated familiarity with information technology and its application to agricultural development
Computer literary is a must, especially usage of Ms Excel, Ms Word, email, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Swahili and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.

Field Assistant -Irrigation & Water Management JOB NO.IF/NA/14/04
Location: Morogoro
General Overview
This position seeks an individual who can roll out the irrigation and water management master plan, assist in the preparation of water management and irrigation designs and specifications, as well as training farmers. This field assistant will contribute to the knowledge of local productions systems and be able to recognize opportunities for improved cereal production through irrigated and water management practices in the project assigned regions, which may vary greatly from area to area.

Primary Responsibilities
The role of Field Assistant is to:
1. Provide support in the analysis of the water resource and advice on the appropriate irrigation water utilization methods to ensure water conservation for cereal production; meet with water resource agencies and advise management on water conservation policy; develop area/crop specific plan for water and irrigation utilization.
2. Provide support in the rolling out of the water engineer’s recommendation's 011 new irrigation and water management practices appropriate to the area of operation; may also include irrigation design, service and procurement (appropriate pumping systems.
3. Provide input for district level water conservation planning and for development and revision of training handbook;
4. provide support in the development and implementation of the training program in water conservation for sta supervise temporary workers;
5. Maintain close links with other projects for collaboration at the district level.


Responsibilities
1. Ensuring target achievement in terms of plan, budget and establishment of Water Management demo plots in the area of assignment as per introduced water management solutions, equipment, processes and procedures.
2. Prepares regular field reports weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual, internal correspondence and sections of formal reports with supervision and review of project managers.
3. Timely submission of detailed demo reports on establishment and trainings pertaining to :-Vater Management including contact details of trainers/trainees.
4. Development of water management plan with the DCO that supports the rice and maize production strategy for the Project
5. Generate quality leads and build relationships with contacts within his area.
6. Performs regular field investigations, inspections and backstopping for the project as required for the irrigation and water management systems.
7. Manage and build relationships with District water authorities and irrigation equipment suppliers across the project assigned region so that agriculture input supplier direct relationship remains top priority.
8. People Management -Maintaining conducive professional relationship with all business partners.

Diploma, or equivalent education in Agriculture Engineering Discipline (Civil or Environmental preferred), Advanced degree preferred.
1. 2-5+ years of experience in performing water resources studies, investigations, and designs.
2. Skilled in basic or standard field procedures and techniques.
3. Experienced in writing technical studies and reports, collecting field data, and writing internal correspondence.
4. Knowledgeable in sampling techniques for soil. surface water, storm water, and other environmental media.
5. Minimum of 60% field work is required and expected.
6. Excellent organizational & time management skills
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Swahili and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience
8. Computer knowledge; MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, AutoCAD, water resource modeling and database programs, preferred.

Field Assistant- Seed and Agricultural Inputs Job No.IF/Na/14/03
This position seeks an individual who will provide a channel for leading the transformation of Quality Declared Seed (QDS) producers to Certified Seed (CS) Producers through training, linkage and business skills development in the district. The field assistant will develop an in-depth knowledge of local seed market dynamics and be able to recognize opportunities for the various players in the distribution system which may vary greatly from area to area .

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent education ( Plant Breeding, Agriculture Economics, Business Management, General Agriculture)
Minimum 3 years plant breeding, seed production experience in sales, marketing, customer loyalty, or comparable field, within Agriculture Input Supply industry preferred, gained within a highly competitive B2B environment.

Primary Responsibilities.
1. Provide support to QDS/CS production align this to the distribution system on the ground.
2. Provide support in developing production projections and business development plans for QDS producers in each particular geographical area within the project's assigned area.
3. Ensure targeted achievements in terms of monitoring of QDS production volume, Marketing and linking new customers and business partners.
4. Provide support in organization of activities; define priorities, control progress and quality of performance within the project's assigned area.
5. Provide operational support for servicing major seed suppliers in his/her area.
6. Develop simple projections and supply reporting tool & MIS detailing market trends, new seed launches and suggest an action plan to keep producers and consumers informed on seed prices.
7. Provide support in the collaboration with research institutions KATRIN, CHOLlMA, Sokoine University successful through the release of appropriate drought tolerant varieties coming from research.
8. Provide expertise and support in conducting demonstrations with KATRIN to review the TXD 306 optimum yield.
9. Develop, prepare and train on the seed production demonstration protocol for varieties of rice and maize.
10. Work closely with the team in the identification of producer groups to participate in multiplication of certified seeds.
11. Provide expertise in the design and implementation of farmer training on QDS seed production.
12. Support the dissemination of identified maize OPV /hybrid seeds varieties to be used in the maize growing areas Kongwa and Kiteto drought prone area.
13. Work with farmers and seed companies to identify alternative crops like pigeon pea, green gram, and cowpea and soya bean to be used to improve soil status.
14. Generate quality leads and build relationships with contacts within his area. Actively work with and improve the linkage within the input distribution chain in all project districts
15. Assist with the local agriculture trade show, demonstration field days, and Demonstration~ Results Showcase coordination

Input Market Development Specialist job NO.IF/NAl14/02
This position seeks a talented, outgoing, and self-motivated Input Market Development Specialist to playa significant role in the development and execution of the project work to leverage the supply chain to drive agricultural productivity management at the scale needed to meet pressing environmental goals while meeting growing food demands. The focus of this job will be to evaluate potential supply chain partnerships with key agricultural entities, such as input commodity associations or agricultural retailers, and ultimately develop and implement those partnerships. The goal of the partnerships is to support the projects goals of reducing water quality impacts, creating long-term use of quality inputs and technology benefits, and generating additional production sustainability benefits. The Input Market Development Specialist will reach out to and engage partners in the agricultural supply chain, foster improved and stronger collaboration with Government Ministry of Agriculture, agriculture input suppliers, producers and retailers, finance institutions and other key priority partners. These partnerships will support the projects efforts to leverage private sector partnerships and the Tanzanian agricultural supply chain to advance the projects strategy to improve the sustainability of Tanzanian commodity agricultural production. The position offers the opportunity to build the scope and effectiveness of a multidisciplinary team working to accelerate achievement of the projects objective especially in Improving the competitiveness and productivity of maize and rice value chains and facilitating improved domestic and regional trade in Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities
The Input Market Development Specialist will work closely with the DCOP and the production/supply chain team to develop and implement projects; develop strategic relationships and collaborations within the agricultural supply chain community; and support the projects work on supply chain sustainability. More specifically, the Input Market Development Specialist will:
Support the projects agricultural supply chain partnership Be part of the supply chain sustainability team to help the project play an effective role advancing its strategies through the development of partnerships with relevant agricultural supply chain entities. Manage the work by overseeing budgets for project work, developing work plans, negotiating project agreements and scopes of work, identifying and procuring necessary resources, project work and deliverables. Help identify and develop economic and business drivers for our water quality work, including economic drivers for effective placement of irrigation and water management interventions; this will include economic analysis, case development, and interaction with partners. Become sufficiently knowledgeable about the scope an breadth of the program's activities to participate effectively in production team, supply chain team, policy team, and communications team discussions. Help develop and apply appropriate means for measuring the success of corporate partnerships. In addition to these responsibilities, the incumbent will play an integral role in other activities including evaluating and recommending new project ideas; disseminating and communicating project results; and being a team player in the development of a vibrant and entrepreneurial program.

Qualifications
We are seeking an individual with direct experience in successful project management and working with companies with a relevant graduate-level education and/or experience. Understanding of agricultural and agribusiness sectors will be critical ln addition, the general qualifications for this position are: Master's degree or higher in business administration, economics, farm management, or agronomy, soil science studies, or equivalent work experience . Experience working at senior level on input, seeds or water management issues, in particular experience working with farmers and members of the agricultural community and an understanding of the Tanzanian commodity agricultural supply chain, including key actors and incentives is a plus A working knowledge of the current theory and practice of corporate sustainability, and the role business can play in solving agricultural problems Five years of experience in project management, exceptional personal organization and attention to detail Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Swahili and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience Strong analytical skills and experience in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work Sense of humor and strong interpersonal skills Ability to adapt quickly to new situations and changing demands An ability to work both independently and as a member of small teams in a fast-paced, dynamic and creative environment.

Senior Agronomist job NO.IF/NA/14/01
The Senior Agronomist, based in Morogoro, will oversee the implementation of agronomic activities in the project. The senior agronomist will work closely with agronomists in field stations based in Mvomero, Kilombero, Kongwa, Kiteto districts and other project districts as the project expands. The primary function is to develop and disseminate intensified, sustainable production methods for smallholder farmers for priority commodities-rice (particularly paddy rice) and maize-as well as crops grown in association with these crops (usually as rotations). Dissemination is primarily through interaction with government and non-government partners, including farmer organizations, agro-input dealers, and NGOs.
The focus is on commercial, sustainable production to achieve marketable surpluses and reduced production costs. Commercial production will involve the use of fertilizers, organic matter management, improved germplasm, and good farming practices, which may include crop rotations/intercrops, crop/livestock integration, weed and pest control measures, minimum tillage, water harvesting, and erosion control measures. Farming-as-a-business skills are necessary, such as the ability to make farm budgets and evaluate the profitability of technical interventions.
The Senior Agronomist will have hands-on experience in growing one or more of the priority crops, practical knowledge of multiple cropping systems and good agricultural practices, and demonstrated experience in their application. S/he will be expected to identify agronomic constraints to commercializing smallholder production, and to address those constraints through the design of profitable farming systems, centered on production of priority commodities (above). S/he will be responsible for development of farmer training materials, in collaboration with partners, project field agronomists, and regional staff. The senior agronomist will also be responsible for overall design and execution of field demonstrations and data collection, and will work with the Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor to assure accurate monitoring of project outputs. S/he will work with the project's productivity team to develop training materials and train farmers on good agronomic practices. Together with the project's technical team, the Senior Agronomist will support the field teams.

Responsibilities
Coordinate the development of simple, direct training materials, suited to both farmers and extension staff. Work closely with other project agronomists to meet demonstration, training, and farmer adoption objectives. Identify production constraints or bottlenecks and develop means to address them.
Prepare activity reports on a monthly basis .
• Ensure that projects result in economic, environmental and socially sustainable impact.
Establish and maintain contacts with private, government agencies, farmer groups and associations, and NGOs involved in commercial agriculture initiatives.
Work with in collaboration with the agro-input specialist and the seed specialist to ensure the promotion of improved good quality seed and promotion of good agronomic practices to enable farmers respond to market demand and adopt all year round cropping systems
Work with communications specialist to communicate project successes.

Basic qualifications
Minimum Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred) with proven experience in agronomy, soil science, communication and innovation studies related to agriculture or any related field, with at least 10 years of relevant work experience in Africa
Proven leadership skills; ability to work collaboratively in multi-cultural environments and in multi-disciplinary . teams
Previous experience working with farmer organizations to build capacity in novel and exciting ways for a variety of skills highly desirable.
A commitment to and experience in community-based, participatory, field-oriented research and experiential learning approaches.
Good networking skills; existing relations with government, private, and NGO actors in agricultural production. Farming-as-a-business and post-harvest handling knowledge/experience highly desirable.
Experience with gender mainstreaming in agriculture projects highly desirable.
An ability to apply systems perspectives to natural resource management issues
Excellent communication and reporting skills.
Willing to travel extensively in Tanzania.
