Development Production International (DPI) is responsible for Statoil’s existing international comprehensive portfolio of producing assets and planned field developments. DPI focuses on building business clusters and maximizing the value of our producing fields internationally.
Some of the main priorities are to ensure industry leading HSE performance in all our operations and partner operated fields, deliver production and mature new projects. DPI is organized in four regions: Europe and Asia (EA), Middle East and North Africa (MENA), South America (SAM) and sub-Saharan Africa (SAF).
Legal is the competence unit for legal matters related to the Statoil group’s business areas and corporate activities and consist of legal experts, specialists, consultants, and qualified support personnel. The department has overall responsibility for advising on all legal matters and on ethics and anti-corruption and other compliance, undertaking Integrity Due Diligence research and acting as the Corporate Bodies’ secretariat within the Statoil. Legal consist of about 110 employees, of which about 80 are lawyers who are organised in teams reflecting Statoil’s business areas. Legal has local presence in 12 countries and is headed by the General Counsel who reports to the CEO
In 2007 Statoil signed a production sharing agreement (PSA) for Block 2 with Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). Statoil Tanzania AS is the operator with 65% working interest with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Limited as a partner with 35% interest.
In 2012 and 2013 Statoil and its partner made the significant Zafarani, Lavani, Tangawizi and Mronge discoveries in Block 2, which covers an area of approximately 5,500 square kilometres and lies in water depths between 1,500 to 3,000 metres. The discoveries have proved 17-20 Tcf of in-place volumes and mark an important step towards a possible natural gas development in Tanzania.

Job description

  • Give Legal advise and participate in activities regarding:
  • All aspects of the petroleum operations, (including the Petroleum Act;, Production Sharing Agreements; with the government;, Joint Operating Agreements with partners;, upstream exploration, development and production matters including drilling operations;, midstream development and operations as well as downstream matters, like future domestic sales of gas)
  • Land acquisition, environmental and social issues including any resettlement
  • Local corporate issues such as company law, labour law, rental agreements, tax and insurance
  • Procurement processes and procurement of various goods and services
  • Business development opportunities, including host government agreements for new developments
  • Anti-corruption and anti-trust compliance
  • Development and implementation of local corporate directives and governing documents; and
  • Representing Statoil in various external meetings and internal or external committees as required

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Law is an added advantage.
  • Bachelors in Law
  • 3-5yrs years of work experience, minimum two years in Legal position
  • Excellent written and Oral Kiswahili and English Language skills
  • High academic achievement
  • Preferable work experience from both Tanzania and abroad
  • Qualified to practice law in Tanzania
  • Thorough understanding of Tanzanian law and practices
  • Experience from law firms, industry or other business or government agency
  • Solid understanding of general business operations
