Purpose of the role
The purpose of a Night Supervisor’s role is to ensure that there is appropriate supervision at the Gap Medics house while other staff are off duty over night. In particular, you would be there to ensure all students are kept safe and secure, behave appropriately and get the most out of their social time at the Gap Medics house. This role is only open to female staff.
Key responsibilities
You would be employed to be actively on duty for the duration of her shift.
The primary responsibilities of the role are to:
- Actively monitor all areas of the house and grounds to ensure any risks are immediately identified and dealt with so that everyone is kept safe, in particular:
1. Ensure security guards are performing their duties properly and professionally, in accordance with our access rules.
2. Ensure no students are behaving in a way that puts themselves or others at risk.
3. Ensure no students are disobeying our house rules.
- Actively engage with all students in a professional and friendly manner so as to earn their respect and as such be able to effectively control behaviour. Playing cards, teaching some phrases in the local language and even just chatting to students will make managing them much easier and the job more enjoyable.
- Identify problems that you are unable to deal with effectively and immediately report these to the Programme Manager to avoid any situation getting out of control.
- Monitor safety around the house
- Keep the Programme Manager fully informed about problems and issues that have been encountered.
Other duties
In addition to their key responsibilities, Night Supervisors can be helpful in assisting the Caterer or Housekeeper (for example, while students are asleep there may be cleaning or laying out of breakfast that can usefully be done).
The Programme Manager may also be able to delegate some administrative tasks to the Night Supervisor.
Programme growth
As a guide, there should be one Night Supervisor for up to 30 students to ensure effective monitoring of all areas of the house.
Working hours
Typically, you would start work around 7pm, so have an overlap with the Caterer during dinner. Your shift normally ends with the arrival of the first member of staff in the morning (e.g. the Caterer arriving to prepare breakfast at 6am).
