HOUSEKEEPER
Starting salary
Tsh. 250,000- 300,000
Required qualities
- Proven ability to provide housekeeping services to a high standard
- Very friendly personality
- Reasonable English to allow at least basic communication with students
- Thorough with attention to detail and high professional standards
- Trustworthy and loyal, with excellent references from previous employers
- Experience of housekeeping to international standards
Purpose of the role
The purpose of the Housekeeper’s role is to ensure that the Gap Medics house is well run and maintained.
As the Housekeeper, you would also be a very important part of the customer-facing team, not to be confused with a behind-the-scenes cleaner. It is an important reassurance for students that you are someone they feel they know and trust, and can ask for help and support if other staff aren’t available.
Key responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the role are to:
- Ensure that all areas of the house and grounds are always kept clean
- Ensure that all areas of the house and grounds are always kept tidy and presentable
- Ensure that the house and grounds are continually monitored and maintained, so that any damaged, broken, dirty or worn fixtures or fittings are repaired or replaced immediately
- Maintain a constant awareness of all areas of the house and grounds so that anything that represents a danger to students or others is immediately dealt with to minimise risk
- Keep the Programme Manager fully informed about observations or issues that may indicate unacceptable behaviour by students or otherwise be cause for concern
Other duties
In addition to their key responsibilities, you would be likely to job-share with the Caterer (because both are based at the house and have peak work loads at different times).
Working hours
You will tend to be busiest on weekends, changing bed sheets and preparing rooms for new arrivals.
The exact working hours can be set by the Programme Manager around the needs of the programme and the agreed cleaning/maintenance schedules. It may be helpful for you to work mornings, to ensure there is always a member of staff at the house when the Programme Manager and Caterer may be out.
Days off will normally be during the week.
