Under supervision of the Director of UNU-FLORES, reporting directly to him on an operational level and technical guidance of the Head of Communications of the UNU Centre, the key responsibilities of the Communications and Advocacy Associate include: 1. Communications and Advocacy • Support the implementation of a communication strategy ensuring the identification of key stakeholders; • Support the maintenance of event calendars and record of activities on UNU intranet, UNU-FLORES website and Outlook; • Support publishing and maintaining of information related to UNU-FLORES on the UNU intranet and UNU-FLORES intranet; • Support the development of templates/forms for the institute; • Support the effective information and record management; • Support collecting, editing and researching information regarding UNU-FLORES in the news, reports, announcements, publications; support developing newsletter for the institute including drafting articles; • Support coordinating the institute’s blog and updating the institute’s social media tools; • Support maintaining the institute’s website and ensuring the information is up-to-date; • Support editing, proofreading and ensuring all outgoing materials e.g. briefs, brochures, newsletters and publications etc. with high quality, coherence and correctness by following the UN editorial guidelines; draft related documents when necessary; • Support the establishment of databases and mailing list for dissemination of outgoing materials; • Support with liaison with media worldwide; draft press releases and other media briefing materials; • Support with Public Relations matters including preparation of documents for high-level meetings, recording public activities and writing briefs and summaries; • Support Academic Officers in the planning, organization, logistics, implementation and postprocessing of UNU-FLORES activities; • Take part in planning, coordination and administrative support of UNU-FLORES conferences, seminars, lectures and other events; • Support identifying specifications and terms of reference for procurement relating to communications. 2. Institutional Development • Support the organizational activities relating to the establishment of the twin institute; • Support the activities of partnerships with UNU-FLORES, within UNU, UN and other partners; and • Support other areas related to Institutional Development. 3. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor. Required Qualifications and Experience: • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Journalism, English Language, Communications, Environmental Sciences or a related field; • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively relevant professional work experience, preferably at the international level; • Very good command/native level of both oral and written English; proficiency in German is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages would be an asset; • Special journalistic and writing trainings and previous experience with press releases and media matters would be an asset; Page 3 of 3 • Outstanding presentation, writing, and reporting skills; • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; good knowledge in databases, Adobe Suite applications and other communications related applications; • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and complete tasks within given timeframes; and • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Remuneration: Remuneration will commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duration of Contract: This is a full time employment on a two (2) year Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) contract with UNUFLORES, with the possibility for contract renewal subject to satisfactory work performance. The successful candidate will be employed under a local contract and will not hold international civil servant status nor be a “staff member” as defined in the UN Staff Rules and Regulations.
