With experience in the development and management of civil society networks, coordination of events involving high-level stakeholder liaison, and knowledge of the UN and AU systems, African politics, and international criminal justice
In February 2008 the ISS launched the International Crime in Africa Programme (ICAP) that works to improve the awareness and capacity of African countries to end impunity by responding effectively to international crime, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and terrorism.
The Programme Head will report to the Head: Transnational Threats and International Crimes Division and will be responsible for all aspects of programme management including: fund-raising and donor liaison, financial management, delivery of project outputs, staff management, quality control over the training, research and policy products of the programme, monitoring and evaluation and external engagement. S/he also operates as a member of the Senior Management Team of the ISS, and will contribute towards the strategic development of the Institute.
The successful candidate will be responsible for activities relating to the establishment and management of a continent-wide action network on international criminal justice, coordinating training and awareness raising events involving senior government officials and other experts, stakeholder liaison, research and report writing in relation to the programme’s work on international criminal justice in Africa.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a senior person with proven professional competence, with a minimum of a Masters degree in international relations, African politics, or other relevant field
At least 10 years relevant work experience within a policy, politics, research or professional environment with increasing management responsibilities
At least five years of management experience
Excellent financial project management and human resource management skills
Excellent research and writing skills, a record of relevant publications
Strong track record in fund-raising and donor liaison
A strong team leader with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in cooperation with governments and civil society
Experience in providing direct policy support to governments
Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
Willingness to travel extensively regionally and internationally
Salary: Competitive salary offered and initial length of the contract will be for two years, renewable subject to future funding.
