Purpose
To provide logistics support to International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent emergency operations through the Logistics ERU; the team member will ensure the safe reception, storage, distribution and reporting of relief goods handled by the ERU team.
An ERU Logistics team is activated at the request of a FACT Team Leader and will form part of a larger, emergency relief intervention team. Standard operating procedures for Emergency Response Units (ERU), as agreed to by the deploying National Society, apply.
Key tasks and responsibilities
In conjunction with the Logistics ERU Team Leader, ensure the safe reception, storage and distribution of relief consignments: recording movements and reporting on goods. This may include: • Managing airport operations: receiving, unloading, clearing and transporting relief goods • Managing port operations: receiving, unloading, clearing and transporting relief goods • Managing warehouse operations, including sourcing and contracting local warehouses, erection of temporary warehouses and/or the implementation and maintenance of all warehouse systems, including security and reporting on stock level and stock movement data • Provisioning and management of transport for relief materials required under the Relief Plan of Action • Implementing fleet management practices for all vehicles within the relief operation • Conducting of procurement as required and as specified by the Logistics ERU Team Leader in accordance with Logistics ERU SOPs. • Ensuring that the appropriate document handling, stock management, performance figures and financial recording systems are established and maintained. • Training and development of the necessary skills for National Society counterparts and/or others in view of facilitating the later handover of the Logistics ERU tasks. Contribute to narrative and financial reports for the FACT Team leader. Liaise, where appropriate and as requested by the Logistics ERU Team Leader, with government officials and representatives from the UN and other NGOs, including attendance at inter-agency meetings.
Team Members will need to attend a Recruitment Selection Day at the British Red Cross Office London on 13th March.
Team members will need to complete the following training before becoming deployable with the Logistics ERU:
Foundation course – 8 days (16th – 23rd March 2013) On-line security module (to be completed before Foundation Training) Technical course – 5 days (19th-23rd August 2013) Security training – 3 days (18th – 21st April or 13th -16th June 2013) Driver training – 2 days (dates available in April/June/July/Sept/Oct 2013)
