African Barrick Gold Contracts Officer


Reporting to the Contracts Specialist se seek to appoint a Contract Officer to assist with all sourcing activity as it applies to contracting activities within the Africa Region.  This includes, but is not limited to: market analysis, spend analysis, consumption analysis, customer liaison, vendor liaison, tendering process, tender evaluation and selection, contract negotiation, contract recommendation, customer acceptance and contract sign off.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure all small service orders and contracts are under contractual protection.
  • Assist in the management of all existing site and regional  contracts (i.e., major purchase agreements, key commodity supply agreements and service agreements, including contractor/supplier adherence to contract terms, key performance indicators, insurance requirements etc. as directed by the Regional Contract Supervisor or designate
  • Complete tender process from bid list selection, compilation and release of tender package documents, tender evaluation through contract negotiation and execution for all contracts, ensuring all terms and conditions are consistent with company policies and procedures (legal and commercial)
  • Perform cost and price analysis TCO models (Total Cost of Ownership)
  • Review, evaluate and recommend tender documents to site and regional management for approval.
  • Research contractual issues, compile and analyse data and maintain information.
  • Complete spend and market analysis on key commodities and identify site and regional contract opportunities.
  • Liaise with Site personnel in the identification of Contracts opportunities.
  • Liaise with end users (customers), existing and new suppliers to ensure a sustainable level of new and repeat contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental and other appropriate government regulations.
  • Provide follow-up and detail work to ensure orderly and effective contract implementation, including the development of forms and procedures.
  • Review and renew expiring agreements as required.
  • Review and approve contract price updates per contract terms and upload any stock price change data in the Company’s ERP as required.
  • Adherence to Barrick Supply Chain site, regional and corporate policies.
  • Collate and submit contract statistics on a monthly basis. (e.g: percentage spend on contract, savings derived from contract opportunities)
  • Maintain contracts data base and contracts filing.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers.
  • Provide support to Site and regional Supply department.
  • Comply with Barrick Business Code of Conduct.
  • Awareness of, compliance to and visible leadership in all site health and safety policies.
  • Ensures that the working environment contributes to improve staff morale and increase productivity
  • Promote the contract process to all Supply Chain staff and end users within the company
  • Promotes contractor safety on site, and supports all Health & Safety initiatives
  • Use discretion in applying practices and procedures to resolve issues, demonstrate a broad and thorough understanding and application of technical and/or specialized concepts and knowledge in the business
  • Work with site SCM and contract owner in order to obtain maximum value from the contract.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Procurement / Inventory Management qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years supply chain experience, specifically procurement, logistics and contracts management.
  • Experience in a role that requires coordination of multiple processes or sites
  • Mining experience would be considered an asset
Skills / Attribute Requirements:
  • Ability to travel to site on a regular basis (50% working time)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Supply Chain operations, contract management, and sourcing within the supply operations of a large resource company.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
