It’s hard to believe that today 768 million people still don’t have clean, safe water and 2.5 billion live without a toilet. The resulting diseases kill over 1,400 children every day.

WaterAid is looking for a Senior Programme Coordinator – Policy & Advocacy and a Programme Coordinator – Communication & Learning to play a vital role in our mission to transform lives with safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.

Senior Programme Coordinator – Policy & Advocacy

As an active member of the Policy Research & Campaigns team you will champion policy-influencing advocacy, based on analysis, research and best practices, to contribute to lasting improvements in access to safe water and sanitation.

Key responsibilities

• You will conduct periodic policy analysis of the wider social, political and economic contexts to ensure that the country programme stays at the forefront of national development policy debates, relevant for the identification of critical evidence gaps in WASH service delivery.
• You will build relationships, partnerships and networks with the health and education sectors to raise the profile of sanitation and water nationally. This will ensure that our actions are informed by an in-depth knowledge of sector dynamics, emerging sector issues and national priorities.
• You will facilitate the process of building the capacity of WaterAid Uganda and its partners to plan and undertake effective policy and campaigning programmes.

To be successful, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences/Development, an advanced degree in Sociology, Economics, Social Statistics, or Water Engineering with a strong development bias. You will also need at least six years demonstrated working experience in Research and Policy Analysis in the field of development with any reputed national/ international/ donor agency.

Programme Coordinator Communication and Learning

This role plays a crucial function in WaterAid Uganda’s media, public communications, documentation and dissemination of our experiences. It is key to enhancing the visibility and scalability of best practices among development sector and WASH partners, both in government and civil society organisations.

Key responsibilities

• You will lead on developing and executing an appropriate and effective overall communication strategy and media engagement plan for WaterAid Uganda.
• You will coordinate and support the planning and delivery of internal and external communications activities for WaterAid Uganda, including work across different units, among partners and other key players in the WASH sector.
• You will be WaterAid Uganda’s main point of contact with the media, developing and maintaining positive and proactive relationships in order to support the work of WaterAid and its partners.

To be successful, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in either Communications, Journalism, International Development, or a related field, preferably with an international organisation. You will possess exceptional communication skills with excellent writing, editing, presentation, and conversational ability. You will also need at least five years’ demonstrated experience and extensive knowledge in Communications and Media Advocacy work, with strong media links and contacts.
