Director of Strategic Communications, Southern Africa
We are currently seeking a Director of Strategic Communications for the anticipated USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade Hub program. The project’s primary focus will be to develop the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) member states, the private sector, and civil society organizations to realize advantages of greater regional and global trade linkages and export-oriented business development and in so doing, create opportunities for SADC member states to export to the US under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Trade Hub communications strategy, and oversee communications department.
- Lead development of project communications and marketing media including websites, publications, public events and workshops, etc.
- Provide high level editorial assistance to the publication of all project reporting and communications.
- Advise on communications protocol with United States Government entities, Regional Economic Communities (REC), bilateral governments and private sector partners both in Southern Africa and abroad.
- Provide support key project stakeholders, particularly industry and export associations, in external communications and marketing.
- Advise regional industry associations on the development and implementation of communications plans.
- Lead advisory role in industry brand development (i.e. Source Africa) and dissemination strategy and marketing plans at industry trade shows.
- Advisory role to behavioral change and advocacy teams on communications media.
- Design and implement knowledge sharing platform across USAID Trade Hubs, private and public sector partners and USG entities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.S., M.B.A., or other post-graduate degree in trade, agricultural development, marketing, communications, journalism or other relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive communications and marketing experience, preferably in the areas of private sector development, value chain competitiveness and investment facilitation.
- Proven experience contributing to the design and implementation of a government strategic communications strategy required.
- Regional experience in the Southern Africa.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Highly advanced graphic design (preferably Adobe InDesign) and web editing skill. Proficient in video editing.
- Fluency in English required.
