As the world’s leading organisation for children, Unicef works with families, local communities, partners and governments in more than 190 countries to promote the rights and wellbeing of every child. Right now, too many children are in danger. They face violence, disease, hunger, and the chaos of war and disaster. This is wrong and it has to change. We get things done and we’re not going to stop until every child is safe.
Unicef UK is a leading UK charity. We are one of the largest of the 35 national organisations championing children’s rights, winning support and raising money for Unicef’s work. We are currently seeking to appoint a new Deputy Executive Director, Communications, Advocacy and Programmes, who shares our vision to do whatever it takes until every child is safe and able to fulfil their potential. This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious, innovative and successful values-driven organisation – one of the fastest growing charities in the UK - and make a positive impact on the lives of millions of children.
Reporting to the Executive Director, and as a key member of the Executive Team, you will be an essential part of the leadership of the organisation and a leading spokesperson for Unicef UK.
Working collaboratively with fundraising and operations colleagues, as well as with Unicef globally, you will lead and inspire an integrated approach to communications, our highly-recognised brand, programmes and advocacy. You will play a critical role in driving a coherent and dynamic organisation-wide strategy to underscore and enhance the impact and influence of Unicef UK. You will provide clear direction and strong leadership for a high performing team, thereby empowering Unicef UK to deliver compelling messages, raise more money, and ensure effective change to policy and practice, for children.
This role requires someone exceptional. You will have substantial communications, media, brand and advocacy experience gained at a senior level, together with excellent influencing and ambassadorial skills. You will have the intellectual and analytical ability needed to provide strategic leadership to Unicef UK and to the Communications, Advocacy and Programmes directorate. You will be familiar with current trends in international mass media, corporate communications, digital innovation and public affairs. An inspirational, values driven leader with strong people management skills, you will be able to work collaboratively and build the strong relationships required to be successful. Proven senior management experience in a complex and diverse organisation is essential, together with a deep commitment to children’s rights and international development, and the ambition to make a difference.
