KickStart
is an award-winning, global non-profit social enterprise that develops and
mass-markets low-cost irrigation solutions that are bought by thousands of
small-holder farmers in developing countries and used to increase their income
by up to a factor of ten, enabling them to lift themselves sustainably out of
poverty.
Using
an entrepreneurial business model, KickStart has proven its cost- effective
solution to poverty in, Tanzania, Kenya Mali and Burkina Faso, Zambia as well
as in a dozen of other African countries.
A: OVERALL
RESPONSIBILITIES
i.
Ensure projects deliverables are attained in
collaboration with the Head of Sales and Partnership.
ii.
Create
and maintain partnership to drive sales to meet project deliverables.
iii.
Manage and train the distributors/dealers of
our products for efficient delivery of services
iv.
Responsible for logistical planning,
execution, coordination, follow-up, and mitigation to ensure project results
are achieved.
v. Team building and mentoring /coaching
to the sales reps to ensure a well-motivated team
vi.
Write fortnight reports on the projects
performance (targets against actual) and present them to the Head of Sales and
Partnership.
B: SPECIFIC
RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Sales
and Marketing
•
Taking the lead to ensure the sales targets
are met through effectively product marketing.
•
Compute, disseminate and supervise sales
targets for each field officer to ensure cumulative sales targets are met.
•
Track and manage sales performance and other
deliverables on weekly and forthright bases and report accordingly.
•
Track on monthly basis the purchase methods
of our pumps to farmers by either through the sales reps, dealers, community
Ambassadors or through our partners.
•
Ensure KickStart products are available agro
dealers’ shops for easy access by the farmers.
•
Conduct marketing and sales promotion that
involves women and record prospects.
2. Partnerships creation
and enhancement
•
Act promptly on partnership activities with
various partners and ensure that KickStart commitments and responsibilities are
implemented, managed and reported on time.
•
Create
at least 4 partners and monitor their sales performance
•
Working closely with local government
leaders, institutional and other private organization to stir up partnership
and impact of KickStart product.
3. Management of the
projects
•
Timely implementation of activities for Donor
Funded projects to ensure that the agreed action plans are being executed and
reported in a timely manner.
•
Hold
monthly meetings with your team to asses project performance
•
Share with the Head of Sales and Partnership
the progress, shortcomings, need for resources among others.
•
Design tools to track specific indicators for
Donor Funded Projects. Track performance to ensure project activities are being
met.
4. Community Ambassadors
(CA)
•
Develop
criteria for identifying Community Ambassadors.
•
Identify and engage ambassadors for the
projects using specified eligible criterion for being ambassador for the
community.
•
Organize and fine-tune the Community
Ambassador program - set up and management through women focus group
discussion.
•
Create
a more women focused marketing approach
•
Training of CAP Ambassadors on things like
how best to use and maintain KickStart’s current irrigation products;
•
Facilitating
CA relationships with dealers and monitoring all sells made through the CAP
5.
Management
of Field Officers
•
Analyse
and approval monthly work plans for the field officers.
•
Tracking
of sale team field activities by reviewing their weekly reports.
•
Building team work spirit by providing
support, coaching and motivation to the field team so as to achieve set goals.
•
Tracking performance of field staff and
communicating on monthly basis and communicating to the Country manager and to
HR for appropriate action.
6. Raising Awareness
about Irrigation
• Take
advantages of farmers groups to create awareness on irrigation especially on
significant benefits of irrigation.
•
Awareness
on impact that MoneyMaker pump can have on a woman’s life.
•
Financial services available to facilitate
purchase of the technology including KickStart’s savings service called -
‘Bandika’ to enable farmers, who do not have enough money, to save little by
little for a Moneymaker pump using MPESA
•
Participate in village meetings in order to
sensitize use of micro irrigation pumps.
7.
Public
events
•
Representing KickStart in public event to
increase awareness among clients
•
Keep proper records of partners and prospects
for sales to build a productive networking.
•
Attend and participation in various trade
shows and other marketing events.
•
Follow
up with dates of events and schedule for participation
8.
Reports
•
Ensure fortnight reports are sent i.e.
sending two reports per month, one at the mid and the other at the end of every
month.
•
Analyze project deliverables against project
calendar and highlight urgent activities in accordance with project goals and
project time lines.
•
Periodic correspondence with head of Sales
and partnership for project out puts and inputs needed.
C: OTHER

•
Perform
other duties as assigned by line manager or senior KickStart management
D: POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1.
Education
qualification and Experience
1.1 Undergraduate degree related to
agribusiness, business administration. Master degree in the same line from a
reputable university is highly preferred.
1.2 Minimum 5 years sales experience with
3 years in job specific relevant field.
1.3
Strong computer skills including Microsoft
Office (Excel, Word, Access, Power point, Outlook)
2: Skills, Competence

2.1 A
positive thinker and a “go getter” with passionate to drive sells and achieve
set targets with proven track record.
2.2 Ability to reach out and create
partners with an objective of driving sales to their farmers.
2.3 Ability
to interact with local communities and able to identify local women leaders who
can act Community Ambassadors to drive sales to women groups.
2.4 Ability to establish
partnership with win-win relationships with track record.
2.5 Ability
to carry out trainings to groups of farmers on Agricultural water management
solutions using MoneyMaker pumps.
2.6 Managerial
skills to coach, mentor, train and help the team to perform diligently with
track record.
2.7 Demonstrated written and oral
communication skills.
2.8 Excellent interpersonal and networking
skills, demonstrated alliance-building experience.
2.9 Strong project management skills—can
balance reactive daily tasks with planning and stewarding longer-term projects,
ability to design effective processes and strategies.
2.10 Capable
of reporting the project activities and results with documentation of case
studies.
