JUNIOR AGRIBUSINESS ADVISOR

SNV RWANDA (DUTY STATION: KIGALI), IS LOOKING FOR: JUNIOR AGRIBUSINESS ADVISOR

SNV Rwanda is looking for a junior agribusiness advisor to further strengthen the team, to be based in Kigali. The main objective of the advisor will be to contribute in effectively managing 'Smart Accountability in the Rwandan Coffee Sector Project' ensuring efficient use of resources to meet the project's expected results and output targets. She/he will be expected to contribute to other relevant projects as well. The goal of this pilot project is to increase the effectiveness, transparency and accountability of District Coffee Task-force and Cooperative decision making process by using Smartphone and open source technologies.

SNV Rwanda Agriculture Sector Program aims to increase income and employment for smallholder farmers by promotion of market-based solutions through value chain development and innovative business initiatives. We strengthen food security and the environmental sustain-ability of production through focusing on agricultural policies and innovations which recognise smallholders' potential. SNV Rwanda is involved in promoting coffee, beekeeping and dairy programme under agriculture sector.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate developing project implementation plan and regular review of activities
• Cooperate with the partner ICT Company to make sure the development of technical component and software necessary to collect and record voices, upload into the server, and categorisation using tag clouds.
• Coordinate with the partner ICT Company to select, train and coach 3 to 5 youths per cell for collecting and recording data and voices using smart phone technology and uploading onto the virtual server.
• Supervise the trained youths to make sure collection of farmer voices in the regular meetings of the cooperatives at Cell level at different stages of coffee production cycle. The special attention should be given to the vocies of women.
• Support District Coffee Task force to effectively use the voices and concerns of smallholder coffee farmers in their decision making as well as transmitting the recordings of taskforce meetings
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual progress report on the implementation of the project.
• Ensure proper financial management of all project funds in accordance with SNV regulations.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Bachelor's degree in agriculture, economics, management, Information Technology or related field of study
• At least three years' work experience in governance, transparency and social inclusion, with experience in coffee cooperative development initiatives
• Demonstrable capacity in training, facilitation, coaching youths as well as document learnings
• Sound knowledge and strong interest in smart phone and information and communication technologies
• Previous experience working with national and district government institutions, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture, NAEB, and District Offices
• The ability to recognize and analyze governance structures and power relations in working in a multi-stakeholder context and the capacity to work towards a more equal power equilibrium by developing targeted empowerment interventions
• Self-motivated, with the ability to work well in cross-cultural teams decision making as well as transmitting the recordings of taskforce meetings.
• Excellent command of Kinyarwanda (spoken and written) and very good English (spoken and written) and French.
• Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

Duration: until June 2015, Project phase duration (with possible extension based on performance)
