East Africa Fellow , Arusha Region, Tanzania

At Miti Health, we are on a mission to transform health delivery in Kenya by empowering healthcare providers and improving health outcomes for patients. We do this by developing Android-based tools for providers to use to manage sales & inventory and to ensure that they are sourcing high-quality medication from suppliers.
Miti Health was started in 2013 by a multidisciplinary team from Stanford University and UC Berkeley that is passionate about supporting the health sector in East Africa. Our work is funded by the Biodesign Program and Center for Innovation in Global Health at Stanford, and we were recently awarded a D-Prize for our innovative approach to improving the distribution of medication and healthcare delivery for the bottom of the pyramid. Our goal is to build and scale systems rapidly to support thousands of providers and medication suppliers in East Africa. With a network of this size, the power of Miti Health becomes transformative, with the ability to assess disease prevalence and medication quality across the region and drive improvements in delivery of healthcare.
Responsibilities
We seek a professional with a proven track record of management in difficult settings to lead operations and business development for Miti Health in Kenya as we pilot and scale our model. The candidate will work remotely with a team based in the US, Europe, and Kenya. Based on experience and interest, the manager will lead on some or all of the following core functional areas -
  • Manage operations: design the pilot structure which will rigorously test our model, manage the implementation team, design sales systems, oversee data collection, and design payment systems and testing pricing models. Also refine operations and iterate on cost assumptions using findings from the pilot as we prepare to scale these systems.
  • Build strategic partnerships: build relationships with healthcare groups and pharmaceutical suppliers, importers, and manufacturers that will allow them to leverage our network and technology to streamline interactions with providers. Work with the product team to design additional features accordingly.
  • Support product team: use feedback and information gathered from users, potential customers, and others to work closely with the product team to refine our technology and design new features.
  • Support fundraising activities: work closely with the managing director to source fundraising leads and build new funding relationships to fuel our growth.
  • Evaluate and innovate: develop data collection systems to assess our impact and cost-effectiveness and communicate this with the team. This information will be used to refine service delivery using small-scale experiments to test innovations in service delivery. Successful innovations will be rolled into ongoing operations as we scale.
  • Tell the world about Miti Health: develop our marketing and communications strategy to ensure that we are effectively communicating our mission and model to both target customers and potential funders. As a function of this, oversee our website, social media, fliers, blog posts, stock photography, and other items as-needed.
Qualifications:
  • Strong operational work experience driving results in an early-stage organization
