The Transnational Threats and International Crime (TTIC) Division of the ISS works to strengthen knowledge, policy and criminal justice responses to transnational crime in Africa. TTIC undertakes research, provides technical assistance and facilitates capacity building with criminal justice officials to investigate, prosecute and adjudicate transnational and international crimes. These include terrorism, organised crime, and international crime such as including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
The successful candidate will conduct projects with other TTIC staff, including delivering high-level training and specialised technical assistance to a wide range of law enforcement and criminal justice officials, as well as civil society actors working in the fields of international criminal justice, counter-terrorism and transnational crime in Africa. S/he will also be required to co-ordinate projects, initiate and maintain regular communication with key partners and represent TTIC at regional and international meetings.
To qualify for this position, you are required to have:
A master’s degree in international law, international relations, criminology or a related field
At least four years of relevant experience working in one or more of the following areas: terrorism, transnational organised crime, international crime (war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide)
An understanding of criminal justice systems, with some experience of how these operate in Africa
Experience in delivering training and/or technical assistance in the areas described above
Strong research and writing skills
Excellent verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
The ability to work under pressure, work independently, and take initiative
Good networking abilities
Competency in French will be an advantage
This position involves extensive travel. The contract is for a period of two years, and may be renewed subject to funding and satisfactory performance.
Salary: A competitive salary is offered based on experience. The ISS covers relocation costs.
