Position Title : Intern – African Capacity Building Centre
Duty Station : Moshi, Tanzania
Duration of Assignment : Three months
Estimated Start Date : 1st May 2014 to 31st July, 2014
Closing Date : 5th April, 2014
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Under general guidance of the Chief of Mission (COM) and direct supervision of the Regional Technical Specialist for Immigration and Border Management (RTS), the intern will be responsible for a wide range of activities of the African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC).
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Initiate, support and engage in research and compilation of information for immigration and border management (IBM) papers, technical leaflets and presentations.
2. Under supervision and direction from IBM RTS's Draft and edit IBM proposals, reports and other technical materials.
3. Support the ACBC knowledge management system.
4. Assist with the compilation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework for IBM programs in Africa.
5. Assist with the development and standardization of templates relevant to IBM programming (reports, questionnaires, surveys, profiles, application, feedback and interviewing forms and others).
6. Prepare external and internal reports, or parts thereof, as needed, including the ACBC Annual Report and the ACBC Newsletter. Provide information on the program as requested.
7. Assist the ACBC staff in organizing trainings in Moshi.
8. Complete English-French translations, as needed.
9. Travel on duty, based on the needs of the program.
10. Perform other such duties as may be assigned.

Desirable Qualifications:
a) University degree in law, political science and/or development/ Migration studies. Previous experience in Sub-Saharan Africa would be an asset.
Personal Development
The incumbent will acquire technical knowledge in the area of activities of the African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC) and will gain in-site experience in working in an international multi-cultural environment, with an intergovernmental organization.
Languages
Complete Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge in Kiswahili would be an advantage. (East African Swahili)
