Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA) is an apex private sector member based organization mandated to devefe,p and promote the horticultural industry (flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and horticultural seeds) in Tanzania. TAHA's goal is to improve the growth and competitiveness of horticultural industry in the country for social and economic gains. TAHA is an effective voicing platform representing value chain actors (fanners, processors, exporters and service providers) in the industry. Gender and Nutrition Specialist
The Association is looking for a dynamic and experienced Gender and Nutrition Specialist to support its Technical Department by ensuring that gender and nutrition issues are mainstreamed in all the TAHA technical activities. The chosen candidate will be stationed in Arusha and will be reporting to the Technical Manager.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Working closely with TAHA members (producers, processors, exporters, cooperatives and associations) on gender, health and nutrition awareness; Conducting assessments and mainstreaming gender, health and nutrition programs in TAHA activities;
Representing TAHA in meetings, workshops and seminars on gender, health and nutrition;
Supervising and coordinating the implementation of gender, health and nutrition activities including; HIV/AIDS prevention education and awareness activities, peer educators trainings and other health activities as per the approved work plan;
Supporting TAHA member companies in designing and implementing workplace health polices and comprehensive health education packages; Identifying and collaborating with organizations working in the gender and area incorporating existing educational materials into TAHA activities Working with partners to engage People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWA)in the delivery of HIV-prevention messages
Developing gender, health and nutrition programs for TAHA members and non members in rural areas.
Assisting the Programs Manager and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in developing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and reporting structures of all gender, health and nutrition activities.
Preparation of monthly and quarterly reports an submits to relevant persons Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Technical Manager
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Home Economics and Nutrition, Food Technology, Community Development, Public Health, Gender Studies or related discipline is required; master's degree in the respective fields will be an added advantage;
A minimum of 3 years experience in 'gender and nutrition, especially designing and implementing gender and nutrition activities in donor-funded programs is preferred;
Knowledge of gender and nutrition best practices with advanced knowledge of computer applications is required; Experience in USAID funded projects will be an add advantage;
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili; A valid driving license is required as considerable field work is involved.
