The Senior Environmental Health Advisor is a full time position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia working on the Strengthening Ethiopia’s Urban Health Program (SEUHP). The objective of the SEUHP is to support the GOE’s urban health extension program by improving the quality of community–level health services, strengthening referral linkages, building the institutional and technical capacity of Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) and promoting inter-sectoral collaboration to address urban health challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Position responsibilities include providing technical support to government bodies in developing strategies to address sanitation, waste management and water supply; identifying priority areas related to environmental health and working closely with other members of the technical team to create an integrated approach for community level interventions, including training and awareness creation on environmental health, and expansion of structural changes in support of environmental health at the community level.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of a university degree in Environmental Health, Engineering, Hydrology, or a related subject;
• Proven experience in planning and collaborating with government bodies to create a comprehensive environmental health program in resource constrained conditions;
• Fluency in Amharic required;
• At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in each of the following areas:
• -Water supply, sanitation, vector control and hygiene promotion;
• -Managing similar urban health projects in resource constrained environments;
• -Building the capacity of counterparts; and
• -Policy negotiation and advocacy.

Salary commensurate with experience.
