ActionAid Democratic Republic of Congo (AADRC) is looking for an academic professional within governance and rights based approaches to development. The ActionAid Federation is working through a Human Rights Based Approach, and the Youth Advisor is going to play a key role in supporting a number of partner organisations strengthening their human rights based approach to their development work
AAI-DRC started its interventions in DRC in 2003 by supporting emergency responses after the volcanic eruption of Mt Goma. To date it works in North Kivu, South Kivu and in Kinshasa province. The Youth Advisor is placed through the People4Change program; which is a people-to-people support programme providing development support to ActionAid and her partner organisations. People4Change promotes cross national solidarity and innovative approaches for capacity development initiatives. Therefore, this placement is only eligible for applicants, who do not have permanent residency in DRC.

Job tasks include:
• Provide youth sensitisation and training to partner organisations on the human rights based approach and follow up on this training
• Provide technical assistance and guidance as to how to integrate and mainstream the human rights based approach in youth work carried out by the partner organisations
• Support AAI DRC and its partners in developing adequate and accountable monitoring and reporting systems.
• Train youth in proposal development and fundraising.
Required qualifications:
• Post graduate degree with specialization in governance, human rights and development studies, or any other relevant post graduate Social Sciences qualification
• Profound knowledge of governance in contexts similar to DRC
• Minimum of 4 years of governance and youth related work experience preferably from East/Southern Africa
• Demonstrated experience working with Human Rights Based Approaches to development – and in particular in relation to youth programs
• Capacity development experience, including experience in participatory methodologies and tools.
• Strong team player

March 20th to 22rd: Shortlisted candidates are contacted
March 25th to 30th: First round of phone/SKYPE interviews with shortlisted candidates.
April 8th: Personality Assessment feedback via phone/SKYPE
April 18th to 21th April: Face-to-Face interviews of the final two candidates at ActionAid DRC office in Kinshasa
All applicants will be notified after the final selection.
Starting date: 1st of July 2013
Contract start is subject to approval of work and residence permit. The assignment is for 12 months, with the possibility for renewal.
