Nuru’s Community Economic Development (CED) Program Facilitator will be using and maintaining information systems to manage performance and operations of a growing rural group savings and loan program serving two to three thousand clients in remote, agricultural communities in the Kuria West District, Kenya.
The principal role of the CED Program Facilitator is to assist the CED program local staff in getting the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage a rural-based, group savings and loan program through constant professional development, guidance, and training (including: management of data, reporting, personnel management, time management, and budgeting).
Timeline: Nuru Training in U.S.: May 20-30, 2013 Team in Kenya: June 2013 to June 2015, with breaks (2 year contract, then depending on performance full-time position possibly available.)
Specific Responsibilities: • Effectively manage and train a staff of more than 25 in order to deliver high quality training and financial services to community members, while ensuring program activities comply with Nuru CED group savings and loan model and performance expectations • Maintain and help in managing Nuru’s information systems, including basic bookkeeping, Mifos MIS, and integration of reporting needs for operational and accounting purposes • Manage the program Salesforce database for effective savings and loan management, reporting and impact evaluation purposes • Ensure the CED Program is operationally and financially sustainable and scalable, including efficient management of program budget • Set program goals and follow up the implementation of program activities to ensure effective program outcome • Empower local staff to continuously take more ownership of the program • Oversee and lead the development of financial training curriculum that meets the needs of savings and loan groups; individual loan clients; and staff • Research and propose new strategies to integrate new technological developments (e.g., integrating mobile banking into the existing group savings and loan model) • Closely work with the Nuru Kenya M&E team and implement monitoring tools and processes to evaluate the impacts of the CED Program • Maintain the program logic model and update and refine existing operational and program metrics to improve accuracy in its reflection of the community poverty level and operational effectiveness. • Help local staff in planning and recruitment of new members and scale to new communities within the Nuru Kenya scaling framework • Mentor CED staff and facilitate professional development across the team, focusing on management capacity, MIS, and sales force database management • Represent the CED program in professional and other microfinance institution meetings
Specific Skills and Attributes: • Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Social Entrepreneurship, International Development, NGO Management or related fields; Master’s degree preferred • At least 2 years operational field experience in microfinance organization (rural credit cooperatives or microsavings and microcredit institutions) • 2 – 4 years prior experience living and working in the developing world, with minimum of 2 years of project management experience • Experience working with management information systems (specific experience with Mifos MIS is preferred) • Formal data management experience, solid quantitative skills, and advanced-level of experience with Excel; Salesforce database management skill a plus • High commitment to organization’s mission and theory of change • Strong leadership, management and team building experience • Effective crisis management and rapid, innovative problem solving skills in uncertain environments
