Role Overview:
|
The Campaigns and Policy Officer will help us develop and feasibility test plans for an exciting multi-country campaign to mark the 25th anniversary of the open Web. Provide incisive analysis of the political landscape to come up with achievable change objectives. Develop a distinctive campaigning approach that builds on the Web’s generative, co-creative, crowd-sourced culture. Build relationships with key partners (allies and funders). Manage external creative agency providing support on this campaign. Contribute to WF rebranding through the campaign.

Strategic planning

• Use tools such as critical path analysis and power mapping to develop an effective, focused political strategy.
• Produce policy support and analysis materials for internal use with staff and Board. • Work with external creative agency to develop a distinctive campaiging signature for WF, including public-facing messages, mobilisation and communication tactics as well as preliminary work on branding/identity. |

• Identify, consult and collaborate with key players South and North in the digital rights space to build powerful alliances
• Organise a consultative meeting of potential partners in the campaign • Incorporate partners’ views into the strategic plan • Identify and reach out to potential funders of the campaign and assist in developing funding proposals/pitches as needed. |

• Author blog posts and other communications collateral to start to raise WF profile in the digital rights space.
• Integrate a strong social media dimension into campaign strategy.

Essential Knowledge and Experience
|
• At least 3 years campaigning experience involving multiple countries / cultures
• Understanding of and commitment to the principles, values and culture of the open, free, distributed and egalitarian Web • Excellent networking skills • Policy literacy: ability to digest and analyse complex technical policy debates and translate into campaigning opportunities • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, ability to inform and engage through written communication • High capacity for work output in order to meet tight deadlines and multiple priorities with little direct supervision | |||
Desirable Knowledge and Experience
|
• Previous experience, knowledge and contacts in the digital rights/internet freedom space
• Familiarity with “hacker” culture and an appreciation of how this might influence campaigning approaches
