Irish Red Cross Head of International Department

HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL DEPARTMENT

Applications are sought for the post of Head of International Department at the Irish Red Cross Society.

The Irish Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian organization and its International Department is responsible for the management and development of international aid and disaster response programmes as well as the support and promotion, nationally, for the Red Cross worldwide role as champion of international humanitarian law and humanitarian diplomacy.

The successful candidate will manage a small team and will report to the Secretary General of the Society.

He/she will demonstrate the following attributes and experience;

At least a 5 year track-record of achievement in international aid/disaster relief programme development and management.

Proven experience in building relations with donors and in submitting proposals to the EU, UN Agencies, Irish Aid and other international donors.

Extensive experience in mobilizing resources, coordinating inputs, managing projects and reporting to multiple stakeholders.

Excellent communications, inter-personal and networking skills, with a capacity to build relationships and partnerships and operate successfully in a complex international environment.

Leadership and people management skills that will motivate and develop staff to their full potential. A proven ability to work constructively and collaboratively as part of a wider Management Team and to integrate appropriately with high-level strategies and objectives.

Experience in promoting and disseminating international humanitarian law, disaster response law and humanitarian principles and values would be an advantage.

Overseas field experience is desirable for this role and a relevant third-level qualification would also be an advantage.
