PSI and its local affiliates manage malaria control programs in 32 countries and are world leaders in the distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) for malaria prevention. Since 1996 PSI and its affiliates have procured over 200 million ITNs. In 2011, PSI distributed 43 million ITNs in Africa alone, half of all nets delivered in the continent that year.
PSI is seeking an experienced, dynamic Malaria Technical Advisor to support and develop its malaria prevention portfolio. The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with 40% travel and will report to the Deputy Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and lead PSI’s malaria prevention strategy primarily to maximize health impact from Long Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN) distribution. • Facilitate support for PSI platforms to implement and expand PSI’s malaria prevention activities, with particular focus on maintaining Long Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN) coverage. • Provide short-term technical assistance to PSI country programs and national malaria partners in program design, resource mobilization, planning and implementation, behavior change communications and integrated malaria and child survival approaches. • Proactively engage with international partners, including RBM HWG, SRNs, VCWG and AMP to improve coordination at national and international levels. • Support PSI platforms to position and raise funding for LLIN distribution primarily through Global Fund, PMI and other donors. • Oversee MCSD’s malaria prevention knowledge management activities to effectively share lessons learned, case studies and other experience throughout PSI. • Compile and disseminate lessons learned from PSI programs to international partners through a range of media, including tool kits and publications, to facilitate rapid transfer of best practices. • Act as primary MCSD backstop to West and Central Africa.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Relevant post-graduate degree (MPH, MSc, PhD, etc.); • 4+ years work experience in a developing country in a technical or management capacity; Sound technical knowledge of malaria epidemiology, treatment and prevention; • Experience in conducting LLIN distribution through both campaign and routine mechanisms. • Established international reputation in malaria control and knowledge of the partnership landscape; • Strong writing and presentation skills; • Familiarity with the international donor community; • Fluency in written and spoken English; French fluency strongly preferred
