TechnoServe is an international, non-profit economic development organization founded in 1968 out of a conviction that a vibrant private sector is an essential foundation for economic growth and poverty reduction. TechnoServe undertakes targeted, catalytic technical assistance and other programming to increase the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, businesses and industries that in-turn provide sustainable employment, inclusion of the poor and increased incomes. TechnoServe operates in 25 developing countries with over 1000 employees. A substantial portion of our work is in agriculture, enhancing farm productivity and commodity quality and addressing gaps in processing and other agribusiness capacities. Our programs increase smallholder access to new technologies, aggregation and storage mechanisms, markets, critical information and finance. TechnoServe also undertakes structured programs to identify and support high potential entrepreneurs in various sectors through leadership mentoring networks, formalization support, access to capital and development of sustainable business services such as accounting, finance, marketing and human resource management.
II. Program Description:
TechnoServe seeks a Program Development Analyst to support the origination and development of new business opportunities in East Africa, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, and potentially in countries adjacent to the region. The Program Development Analyst will report to the East Africa Business Development Manager, and will work closely with Country Directors and Program Managers in the field, as well as Program Development staff in the home office.
III. Position Description:
The Program Development Analyst’s responsibilities include:
• Identify new funding and program opportunities to build up the new business pipeline in prioritized countries and contribute to the strategy for approaching the opportunity
• Cultivate and manage relationships with donors and potential stakeholders, including government and private sector companies
• Cultivate and manage relationships with partner organizations, including private sector companies
• Design and write high quality responsive and competitive technical proposals
• Create accurate and competitive cost proposals, including budgets and budget narratives
• Conduct industry analyses and agriculture value chain analyses, as needed
IV. Required Skills & Experience:
• Masters in Business, Agriculture, Economics, International Development or related fields preferred
• 3-5 years work experience required
• Experience living and working abroad, Africa preferred
• Persuasive writing and communication skills
• Ability to make effective public presentations
• Ability to structure and analyze information quickly
• Passion for business solutions to poverty, delivering results and achieving real social impact
• Fluent in English, writing and speaking
• Past program development/business development experience, preferred
• Private sector experience preferred
