We are now looking to fill the Programme Accountant position. The Role Working under the authority of the Finance and Systems Manager, the Programme Accountant is responsible for the co-ordination of all financial matters relating to the work and operations of the country office supporting Oxfam GB work in Uganda. The job demands rigorous and careful attention to routine systems and procedures and complete integrity at all times. You will be responsible for co-ordinating the management of all bank and cash transactions in order that programme activities can be efficiently carried out. This involves cash flow & bank reconciliation management, management of advances, invoices and cheque/bank Payments and fixed assets reconciliation. The role also covers payroll and Balance Sheet pack management. This position requires excellent skills in compliance and accuracy as well outstanding skills in budget & Expenditure Monitoring. You will provide Partner assessment support and provide quality checks on all financial reports reviewed by the Finance Assistant to ensure they comply with donor requirements as well as Conduct partner visits to examine their financial records for accuracy and propriety of expenditures You will be required to provide Programme Offices Support and your responsibilities may involve travel to the field to provide financial training and support to Oxfam GB operational offices. Such travel may be under insecure conditions and involve a degree of personal discomfort. |
Preferred Skills: | The Person You should posses a bachelor’s degree in accounting from a recognised institution and/or a have an equivalent professional qualification in Accounting, Finance or relevant field. You should possess a minimum of 3 years working experience in an NGO in a financial capacity with substantial exposure to a similar role. You should have knowledge and experience of financial reporting requirements, proven experience of operating computerised accounting and coding systems. Excellent knowledge of spreadsheet design and use, proven and extensive experience in financial statement preparation, high level of numeracy, accuracy and analytical skills, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence others. You should be flexible, adaptable and good team player.
