Job Title: Education Project Officer (1Position)
Location: Pagak Upper Nile
Reports to: Field Program Manager
Job Purpose
The Education Project Officer will work closely with the DCR Project Manager to implement the education component of the DCR project in Upper Nile. S/he will be responsible for facilitating and supervising a range of activities including (but not limited to): the distribution of school supplies, school rehabilitation and construction, training of teachers and PTAs, capacity building, support to children’s clubs and advocacy. The Education Project Officer will regularly monitor and report on the progress of project activities.

Project Implementation
• Work closely with the DCR Project Manager in implementing and developing all aspects of the education component of the DCR project
• Support targeted primary schools in Maiwut County and ensure they are visited on a regular basis
• Plan, organise and oversee PTA and teacher training activities and ensure follow up, monitoring and evaluation is done to support the participants
• Ensure PTAs and SMCs have appropriate management structures and systems in place with representative leadership and membership, and ensure they practice a form of inclusive development planning, with active participation of marginalised or most vulnerable social groups
• Facilitate the participation of PTAs and SMCs in relevant alliances and networks, such as the Upper Nile Civil Society Forum, in targeted areas
• Supervise to ensure timely and accurate delivery of material supplies to schools
• Supervise to ensure timely, high quality rehabilitation and construction in schools
• Ensure child participation in project activities through the formation of children’s clubs and provision of support materials and training
• Ensure that project progress is effectively monitored through the collection of baseline data and analysis of key indicators, ensuring that all results are properly documented
• Evaluate, monitor and review to ensure strict compliance of project activities with Save the Children national and global policies and procedures and with relevant donor regulations and agreements, INEE, SPHERE guidelines and the NGO code of conduct
• Coordinate, supervise and provide technical support to local implementing partner(s) in order to build their capacity in different areas of project implementation
Financial Management
• Manage and account for cash / floats for activities such as children’s clubs, PTA and teacher trainings, community mobilisation workshops, local education authorities’ capacity building workshops and other components of training programmes
Representation and Coordination (Internal and External)
• Build and sustain good working relationships with key local education authorities at County and Payam levels and any other local education stakeholders and partners through clear communication, representation and feedback
• Represent Save the Children in meetings, workshops and activities, with the ability to understand and explain Save the Children policies, practices and approaches
• Establish good relations with the local civil administration and community leaders, particularly the chiefs, sub-chiefs, women’s groups, parents and children
• Advocate and support equal participation of women and girls in education
General
• The responsibilities of this post require the holder to have one to one contact with children or young people, therefore the Education Project Officer is expected to carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children's commitment to safeguarding children in accordance to the Child Protection Policy
• Assist with other relevant duties as identified and assigned by the line manager
Essential
• Bachelors Degree / Diploma in Education and/or qualified teacher with at least 3 years teaching experience (specifically working with children)
• Good understanding of educational needs in the region and the entire education system of South Sudan
• Experience of teacher training and training of trainers
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to speak the local language (Thok Naath) will be considered an advantage
• Experience and knowledge of community and child participation methodologies
• Computer skills, with good knowledge of Word and Excel and the ability to produce high quality reports
• Strong representation, advocacy and communication skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team to achieve set objectives
• Ability and willingness to walk or cycle substantial distances and camp for extended periods.
