The British High
Commission invites applications for the position of Security Officer. The
position is full time and based in Dar es Salaam.
The Security Officer
will have overall responsibility for the management of security of the British
High Commission and Department for International Development offices at Umoja
House and the separate British Council office.
The Security Officer will also be responsible for the security of BHC,
DFID and British Council expatriate staff accommodation located at various
areas in Dar es Salaam.
Applicants must have the legal right
to live and work in Tanzania.
Responsibilities
Manage security of personnel
- To manage the day to
day running of the contract guard force as directed by the Overseas
Security Manager.
- To assist the
Overseas Security Manager in briefing and instructing staff in security
issues.
- Ensure that weekly
tests of the alarm systems are carried out.
- To carry out daily
perimeter security checks.
- Ensure that security
measures are in place for High Commission functions as directed by the
Overseas Security Manager.
- Other security
related duties as directed by the Overseas Security Manager.
Source and maintain security
equipment
- Provide and account
for radio equipment distributed to the High Commission, Department for
International development and the British Council personnel, and train all
new arrivals in their use.
- Ensure that staff
know how to operate the alarm systems in their properties and that any
faults are dealt with promptly.
- Ensure that the
security equipment held by the contract guard force is in working order
Maintain relevant contacts and
networks
- Liaise with and
maintain good working relations with the Tanzanian Police to ensure
support at special events and emergency situations as directed by the
Overseas Security Manager
- To assist the
Overseas Security Manager in liaising and maintain conduct with other
Security personnel in other friendly missions.
Qualifications and
Experience
- Secondary level
education
- Has experience in
running a guard force in day to day duties
- Security background,
e.g. have worked with police or armed forces or in a similar role for at
least 3 years.
- Similar experience
with an international organisation would be an added advantage.

- Fluency (oral and
written) in English and Kiswahili is essential and will be tested.

Compensation
package
The
starting monthly salary for the position is Tzs 1,528,155 + 10% matching
contribution to a local pension fund and medical insurance. Appointment will be under local terms and
conditions will be subject to medical and security clearance. The candidate selected to fill this position
will be required to obtain RESTRICTED security clearance.
