Room to Read is an International non-government organization (INGO) that partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing Libraries, creating local language children's literature, construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, promoting literacy and providing education to girls.
Room to Read in Tanzania is looking for a Girls Education (GEP) Program Manager based in Tanzania. The incumbent will report to the Program Director and will be required to make frequent trips to the regions and districts where the Girls' Education program is operating, as well as manage the implementation of the program in Turiani, Mvomero district.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of the GEP Program Manager will be to provide guidance, direction, expertise, and direct management to Girls' Education program staff and to directly manage our GE activities in Turiani. She/he will spend 50% of his/her time leading the .development, review, and revision of the Girls' Education program strategy and ensuring alignment with global strategy. She/he will be responsible for the successful overall implementation of the Girls' Education program strategy in Tanzania. This includes implementation of program activities on time and within budget. She/he will spend the other 50% of his/her time managing and supervising program implementation in Turiani in Mvomero district, including spending 10 days per month in Turiani to oversee program observations and facilitate meetings and trainings. She/he Provides excellent leadership to the Girls' Education program team and supports staff as a mentor and participatory leader, effectively delegates responsibility and holds team members accountable. She/he Encourages collaboration, innovation, excellence, an'd professional growth and takes a leadership role in advocacy in line with the global and country Girls' Education program strategy, as well as builds coalitions of partners to support advocacy agenda.
KEY REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Social Science; Education and/or other related discipline; A minimum of ten years of professional experience in development; Preference will be given to female candidates; 5 years' experience in planning and implementatoni ,Pll of education programs on a large scale; Experience in direct program implementation at field level; A leader with experience in building and managing strong teams; Ability and desire to travel within the country frequently (about 30-50% of the time); Experience in managing budgets, projects and people; Strong collaborative nature with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
