This could be your opportunity to help those children most in need to create better futures for themselves and their families.
Our Int. charity partner in UK & Arusha, Tanzania, runs a youth development programme for 14 – 24 year olds, who are otherwise unable to go to school, and are living in marginalised or impoverished conditions.
It offers them a one year foundation course of schooling in areas such as English, ICT, science, maths, humanities and sport, as well as education on social issues such as HIV & AIDS and sexual health awareness. After this year of education and training, the young people are then supported in their next steps, which could be internships, vocational training, job hunting or secondary education. Our partner will only end their sponsorship of the young people once they are successfully entered into a new path. They are currently supporting around 90 young people.
The charity has been running for 6 years, and in that time they have relied solely on community fundraising, sponsorships and donations from individuals (monetary or resources). They are hoping to secure larger grants in 2014, but struggle generally creating donor proposals, as they are lacking a system to be able to budget and forecast.
You will be the first volunteer with AfID’s new partner, and the assignment would be akin to undertaking a general assessment of their accounting procedures and controls, and making recommendations, or implementing changes as you deem necessary. They would then like mechanisms putting in place to be able to keep track of any incoming funds, and help to budget the money from the sponsorships and any potential new grants, to be able to create clearer projections and proposals. Once the grants are secured, they will need support with donor reporting. They need a general user friendly system for their staff to use. They are audited every year, and all records are kept in either cash books or on Excel, which need to be consolidated and better controlled.
Ideally you would be able to volunteer for 3 – 12 months and be available as soon as possible. Accommodation and Lunch are paid for by the charity.
