Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College is a constituent College ofTumaini University'Makumira, owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church ofTanzania. The College is based within KCMC Hospital grounds in Moshi, Tanzania. The College trains health professionals for various University awards in clinical and health sciences. It currently wishes to recruit a competent and committed ICT person to fill the position of Information and Communication Technology Technician who will work within the Directorate of Research and Consultancy, specifically for the Electronic Institutional Review Board (e-IRB) in the College Research Ethics and
Review Unit.
The College Research Ethics and Review Committee have initiated a project to implement electronic Institutional Review Board software that will provide an electronic method for submitting IRB applications online, tracking, retrieving and reviewing information related to the Institutional Review Board activities. The e-IRB, which is a web-based application, will provide tools for submitting and managing requests to the KCMU-College Institutional Review Board for approval of human subjects research. The purpose of this project is to streamline the process of submitting research studies to the IRB as well as improving its efficiency.
REPORTS TO: Director of Research and Consultancy
Main Purpose of the Job
To be responsible for the management, maintenance and development of ICT hardware, software, application and the provision of technical advice and support related to the Institutional Review Board (e-IRB) activities.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
A wide knowledge of operating systems, computer programmes, networking, hardware and software packages related to electronic Institutional Review Board.
Ability to explain problems and solutions clearly to non-technical users.
Good communication skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Patience and perseverance. '
Key Tasks
1. Identification, installation and operation of e-IRB hardware, software and application.
2. Assisting with customization and adaptation of existing e-IRB programmes to meet users' requirements.
3. Connecting users to networks and provide initial training in facilities and applications.
4. Making sure users can use the e-IRB application by providing self-help instructions.
5. Analysing and recovering system when malfunction occurs.
6. Performing back-up, recovery and systems monitoring.
7. Providing technical support, advice, guidance and assistance to IRB members and other users.
8. Monitoring hardware and software on LAN/WAN systems.
9. Troubleshooting software and hardware on-line to maintain system performance throughout.
10. Maintaining security code and ensuring the safe set up of the software.
11. Protecting the system from intrusion, damage or data loss.
12. Keeping abreast of current hardware and software developments and providing' advice on the best product for IRB activities.
13. Internet applications and security may also be required
14. Working flexibly and undertaking other duties of an equivalent nature that may be required by the College'senior management from time to time.
Remuneration for the post
Competitive and attractive package of salary and fringe benefits will be offered to the successful candidate . •
Working Experience Required:
At least one year experience in working with hardware and software packages related to electronic Institutional Review Boards.
Duration of the Contract:
One year on renewable basis 'subject to satisfactory performance.
