The Simandou Project in South-East Guinea is a large development project within Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO)'s portfolio and the expected capital outlay for this Project is over US$10 billion. For further information, please consult www.riotintosimandou.com .
As the Area Manager- Housing
for the Simandou project, you will be responsible for the engineering,
procurement and construction management of specific construction
projects worth around $500 million in total. You will be directly
accountable for setting the strategic project scope, definition and the
delivery of the project in accordance with agreed design, safety, time
and cost parameters to achieve project objectives.
You will have
autonomy for managing and completing the project will minimal direct
input from General Management and will be required to interact
independently with all major stakeholders.
You will be
required to drive the strategic approach to the particular project and
have the capacity to make major decisions regarding changes to the
project. You will also provide clear direction to the Project team and
the EPCM with problems that arise with Design criteria, Operational
management, Operations interface, Contract Management, Project progress
and Safety incidents.
Therefore, your responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
· Overall control and responsibility for the designated project
· Review
construction or contract planning and monitor progress of allocated
projects to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost
estimates
· Provide technical and contractual assistance to Project Engineers.
· Establish, maintain and control project budget cost control, project progress in accordance with schedule.
· Establish, maintain and control project safety to ensure compliance with the OHS&E and progress towards zero harm
· Establish,
maintain and control QA and project quality standards in accordance with
responsibilities outlined in project QA plan.
· Liaise with
Operations GM and Ops personnel on all aspects of the progress of the
project to ensure no unintended interruptions of production are
experienced.
· Monitor day-to-day industrial issues and refer all issues to Project Director or Manager Employee Relations.
· Provide weekly updates and monthly project reports, as required.
· Review project staff regularly and recommend all training necessary for staff to achieve or exceed their career objectives.
· Ensure effective mechanisms for consultation with employees in respect of Occupational Health & Safety are established
· Overall
management and responsibility for total project correspondence and
contractual records (client, subcontractors, consultants, etc).
· Ensure project is managed as per the Project Procedures Manual.
· Approval of all payments made by the EPCM Contractor on the project.
· Take part in
annual Departmental and/or Project HSE Audits and developing
appropriate remedial action plans to address areas of non-compliance
and/or inadequate performance
This role will be on a FIFO (Fly In Fly Out) rotation basis to Guinea.
Your profile
· Degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management and/or Finance, or equivalent
· Strong technical knowledge of construction and project logistics
· Previous
track record of successful completion of several design and construct
projects as Project Manager in $100's of millions range.
· Demonstrated
success in managing and completion of a major project +$200 million,
with the same level of complexity and strategic importance as this role
will be required
· International project experience in remote locations
· Strong leadership capabilities exhibited and proven.
· Strong emphasis on completing project exhibited and proven.
· Strong Project Management skills
· Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Fluent in French and in English (speak, read, and write)
