ASB established a presence in Uganda in 2005, opening a branch office in Kampala and an operational field office in Lira District, Northern Uganda. Convinced of the importance of providing emergency assistance to vulnerable IDPs, ASB has made the decision to focus its intervention on returning IDPs, provided the essential freedom of movement and protection for the displaced population was guaranteed.
Operations started with relief interventions in IDP camps, soon after followed by emergency and rehabilitation activities regarding the return for vulnerable returnees in Lira, Oyam, Apac, Pader and Dokolo Districts. To respond to the emergency caused by the floods in 2007 ASB has extended its operation to Teso Region. Since 2010 ASB is also present in Karamoja Region with two offices in Moroto and Kotido.
