Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) unites the producer-, market- and business-facing activities within the Fairtrade Labelling system. FLO is the umbrella body for Fairtrade globally. FLO develops Fairtrade strategy; prepares and publishes Fairtrade Standards and prices; supports producers in accessing and maintaining Fairtrade certification and capitalizing on market opportunities; and facilitates global Fairtrade markets, to optimise benefits for producers.
The Strategy and Policy Unit is responsible for defining the strategic direction of FLO, for developing its policies and for clarifying its positions on strategic issues.
OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:
Function
The Policy Manager supports the strategic work of the SPU and manages the development of policies and strategies for approval by the Director SPU, Leadership Team and / or the FLO Board.
PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core responsibilities
• Supports the strategic thinking of the SPU and the delivery of Fairtrade’ strategy and policy objectives.
• Manages a diverse portfolio of projects regarding policy and strategy development of the Fairtrade system
• Acts as a primary point of contact at FLO for matters related to strategy and policy development
Specific tasks
• Short and long term project planning (including budgets)
• Elaboration and revision of strategies and policies.
• Carry out research and manage consultants
• Conduct consultations with relevant parties
• Coordination of discussion regarding strategic policies, decision-making and implementation.
• Consult, manage communications and build effective relationships with relevant stakeholders.
• Represent the Fairtrade system in selected conferences, workshops, seminars and projects.
• Undertaking such other tasks as are considered necessary by director of the SPU and are consistent with the level and responsibilities of this post.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Requirements:
• Academic degree or equivalent academic qualifications
• Seven years of experience in a relevant position
• Demonstrated experience in handling multi-stakeholder issues in multi-cultural environments
• Understanding of Fairtrade system and perspectives of its stakeholders
• Excellent organizational skills including project management.
• Excellent communications skills
• Excellent relationship building skills
• Staff Management & leadership skills
• Fluency in English
Desired:
• Advanced knowledge at least one other language
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- 75-100% position
- Contract for approximately one year (maternity cover)
- Flexible office/working hours
- Position based in the FLO e.V. office in Bonn, Germany
- The working language is English
- Remuneration in accordance to CBA category VIa plus benefits package
- 30 days holidays for full time position (or part-time equivalent)
- Occasional short-term travel required
