Temporary Monitoring and Evalauation Position, Tanzania

The Tanzania Youth Scholars (TYS) program is a five-year initiative implemented by the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and funded by USAID. The program began May 2011 and works in 18 districts of Tanzania in partnership with Camfed and VETA as well as the Government of Tanzania’s Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) to identify most vulnerable children (MVC) and support them during their transition from school to work. The main goal of the TYS program is to increase access to quality vocational and entrepreneurship training and secondary education opportunities for 1,800 OVC ages 14 - 24, along with other support to create economic opportunities for youth. All TYS partners integrate life skills training to improve young people’s ability to lead healthy and productive lives.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:
TYS is seeking a part-time (3 days per week, 8 hours per day) temporary employee from March – June 2015 to assist with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) work for the TYS program.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Ensure TYS partners complete M&E forms and submit data to IYF in a timely manner.
• Provide technical support to partners in collecting, uploading and reviewing data.
• Contact program graduates to gain information on their experience in the program and status post-graduation.
• Survey employers involved in the program to get their feedback on program graduates recruited as interns and/or employees.
• Upload data into TYS Excel Database and STAT database. Update the USAID PROMIS database, if necessary.
• Review data in database for errors or implausible data/results and ensure data accuracy.
• Analyze data and provide results to be included in quarterly reports for IYF, the donor, and partners.
REPORTING AND KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervision and oversight of duties will be provided by the Project Director, TYS based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in M&E and statistical or research works.
• Knowledge of or experience with programs that support youth employment, education/training, and/or social services.
• Excellent oral and written English and Swahili fluency required. Proficiency in local/other language a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Excel is required and experience with STATA and other Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.) is desirable.
• Commitment to international development and values-driven work environment.
• Comfortable communicating by phone, e-mail and in person with human resource staff, youth and partner staff.
• Ability to identify problems in a timely manner and make recommendations toward resolving problems.
• Ability to follow-through on tasks and with partners.
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
• Ability to multi-task.
LOCATION:
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (3.5 – 4 month temporary position, 3 days per week, 8 hours per day)
