USAWA (Umoja wa SACCOS za Wakulima), co – founded in 2006 by local Saccos and Fert, a French farmers Association,  is a network of rural Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOS) operating in Northern Tanzania (Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions). The objective of USAWA is to provide technical assistance to the SACCOS based in rural areas to allow them to offer high quality financial services to their members. Today USAWA consists of more than 30 shareholder SACCOS corresponding to 17,000 members.

USAWA is currently seeking an Accountant (Full time) for its office in Moshi. He/she will be part of the Management Team and reporting to USAWA’s Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Preparation of Saccos yearly financial statements for audit
• Follow up on reconciliation between manual and software based book keeping of SACCOS
• On site and classroom training for clerks on book keeping and accounting
• Manage Usawa database of information on member Saccos: check completeness of
• monthly situation forms received from Saccos, posting of data, monthly reporting

• Establishing monthly invoices to the member SACCOS for payment of contributions, follow
• up of payments, monthly reporting

• Managing Usawa revolving credit fund: disbursements, follow up on repayments, monthly reporting
• Prepare loan requests from Saccos for screening by Usawa credit committee
• Participation in credit committee meetings

Requirements:
• Diploma, ...
• Minimum of 3 years working experience in accounting, including proven knowledge of and experience in Accounting and Financial Management
• Affinity and experience with SACCOS and/or the micro-finance sector
• Strong interest to work with SACCOS based in rural areas managed by farmers
• Strong capacity of monitoring and reporting
• Good computer skills
• Strong ability to prioritize and to meet deadlines
• Good written and oral communicative skills in English and Swahili
• Accurate, honest, hard worker, reliable

Additional information:
The working contract is for 1 year, renewable. The work station is Moshi and requires frequent travels to Saccos in Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions.
