Research/Data Analyst
This is a technical position whose primary role is to generate policy-oriented data analyses to illustrate policy scenarios that decision-makers should explore to accelerate development in Africa. Apart from supporting the analytical needs of other technical staff, the candidate will also provide hands-on technical experience in data analysis to government officials and other partners.
The Candidate must have a Masters degree in applied statistics or related discipline with at least 5 years’ experience in conducting both micro and macro level data analyses. The candidate should be proficient in using Statistical software such as SPSS, SAS or STATA and be well grounded in interpretation and translation of the results into concise outputs that policy-makers can use. The candidate should also have good communication and writing skills, have demonstrable appreciation
of the role of qualitative data in research, and have experience in policy engagement.
Main Duties:
• Analyze large scale-data sets such as national censuses and demographic and health surveys
• Manage data sets that AFIDEP may collect or collate through its projects
• Conduct systematic reviews and synthesis of scientific publications and other literature
• Conduct policy and program audits to identify opportunities for improving service delivery
• Contribute to analytical and advocacy efforts to promote generation and use of research evidence in decision-making processes at national, regional, and international levels
• Translate research evidence into concise policy and program recommendations, including writing project reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, newsletter articles, and web-based advocacy materials
• Support other staff members on data analysis
Contribute to proposal development, scientific writing and conference presentations
Requirements:
• An MSc in Applied Statistics or Bio-Statistics or a quantitative social science discipline (e.g. Demography, Economics).
• Proven high level proficiency in statistical analysis and management of large datasets (e.g. Demographic and Health Surveys and censuses) using software like Stata, SAS, and SPSS
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in a similar position
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English; proficiency in French is desirable
• Experience in policy engagement and project management is desirable
• Evidence of scientific publications and/or scientific conference presentations is desirable
Qualitative, programming, graphics and web design skills would be added advantage:
