1. Market Development Officer
The role of Market Development Officer is to facilitate link between input & service markets and farmer groups to increase productivity and income of rural smallholder farmers.
Job Responsibilities:
• Work with key stakeholders in targeted market systems, applying the Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) methodology to facilitate interventions in the farm-to-market value chain
• Conduct and analyze market assessment or value chain analyses to identify input and output markets opportunities and design project interventions to create pro - poor access in the systems
• Establish platform of value chain actors for collaboration and develop the market systems
• Develop appropriate intervention strategies for development of the market systems for different working regions of the project
• Explore and create possible marketing arrangement ( like collective marketing, non local markets and contract arrangement ) in favor of project participants
• Develop innovative approaches to facilitate linkages between smallholder farmers and market opportunities
• Ensure the participation and engagement of key stakeholders, market actors and potential private companies for partnership and support and engage them to come up with innovative ways of linking commercial markets to smallholder farmers
• Develop intervention tools and capacity building strategies that can be delivered through a tiered training structure to staffs and key stakeholders in the market.
• Facilitate workshops, events and meetings that establish dialog and activity between key stakeholders in the selected value chains
• Develop monitoring and evaluation framework, reports and project outputs with market development component
• Facilitate link between input & service market and farmer groups to increase productivity and income
• Ensure effective implementation for market development program in the concerned area and have to make results as per project plan
• Provide technical support and training to staffs regarding M4P and value chain
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
Required qualifications:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Economics, Business or Development Studies
• Atleast 3 years of experience working on agriculture and agribusiness/ private sector development projects
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience using the M4P/market development approach
• Agricultural Value Chain development experience
• An understanding of Agricultural extension approaches for market development
• Ability to communicate at all levels of the value chain from small farmers to executive level discussions with key decision makers in the private and public sectors
• Excellent communication skills; and relationship management
• Fluency in English (both written and oral) is essential; and fluency in local languages highly desirable
