SNV Tanzania is looking for a :Project Manager
(Local contract-Based in Sumbawanga Rukwa)
SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation. Founded in the Netherlands 50 years ago, we have built a long-term, local presence in 39 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors works with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.
Agriculture not only addresses a basic need of the global population – food and nutrition security, for a population expected to reach 9.1 billion by 2050; it also offers essential commodities, environmental services and social goods that facilitate economic development, industrialisation and diversification. Yet agriculture also accounts for 70% of water use and and estimated 30% of greenhouse gas emissions; it contributes to, and is threatened by, environmental degradation and it will be further impacted by climate change. Our challenge is to contribute to ‘making agriculture more sustainable’ by developing knowledge, tools and solutions that maximise the benefits while minimising the negative impacts of agriculture in the face of a changing climate.
SNV’s focus is on the world’s 500 million small-holder farmers, particularly women, who continue to produce 70% of global food and will remain key figures in agricultural production. SNV aims to deliver consistently high-quality results in agricultural projects by innovating, identifying and scaling-up solutions, and by bringing in new business opportunities and linkages.
SNV in partnership with The International Union for the Conservation of Nature IUCN will be implementing a 5-year Sustainability and Inclusion Strategy for Growth Corriddors in Africa referred to as the SUSTAIN Initiative. The intitiative will be lead and implemented in the Sumbawanga cluster in Rukwa region by SNV in close cooperation with key local actors and stakeholders. Two landscapes will be targeted by the inititiative in the first year and later expanded to two additional landscapes.
The SUSTAIN Initiative overall goal is to ensure that demand for water, land and food is met sustainably using nature-based solutions, creating the foundations for a green economy. Therefore solutions for water and food security and climate change resilience are built using healthy & restored ecosystems and sustainable river basin management are applied in strategies, investments and partnerships for economic development in the cluster.
