Job Purpose:
The purpose of the Senior Mentor/Trainer (Media Management and Marketing) role is to increase the sustainability and financial independence of the Tanzania-wide network of local radio station partners. Project ‘A National Conversation’ intends to achieve greater sustainability, strengthening partners’ business management skills and systems, the development and implementation of robust profit-generating radio advertising, marketing and sales strategies.
The Senior Mentor/Trainer (Media Management and Marketing) will be primarily field-based (75%) rotating between the partner radio stations across Tanzania with the remaining time (25%) based at BBC Media Action’s office in Dar es Salaam.
Main Duties:
Working closely with the Project Manager and Senior Training Advisor, the Senior Mentor/Trainer (Media Management and Marketing) will:
- Develop a media management and marketing training as well as a mentoring strategy for the ‘A National Conversation’ project
- Undertake marketing, advertising and management skills capacity and needs assessments at the local radio station partners
- Develop training tools and materials covering (but not limited to) local-radio advertising, local-radio marketing, media planning and sales, local private sector mapping, business planning and strategy, and local-radio management
- Deliver training and provide advice to local radio station partners in how to realise long-term increases in revenue and profitability
- Deliver training and provide support to local radio station partners to build management capacity and develop stronger internal systems
- Deliver media management and marketing training to the wider BBC Media Action projects’ and training teams
- Submit weekly and monthly training reports, work plans and budgets to the project management team
- Contribute to donor narrative and financial reports, including drafting media management and marketing sections in English and Kiswahili
- Deliver any other tasks related to this role as required by the line manager
Required knowledge, skills and experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in either Marketing or Advertising or Business Management
- 5 years’ experience in marketing and/or advertising in Tanzania
- 3 years’ experience in a management role in a marketing or advertising environment
- Experience of developing radio advertising and/or radio marketing and/or radio sales campaigns
- Experience of planning and delivering training in marketing and/or advertising and/or business management
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken Kiswahili and English
- Experience of preparing detailed narrative reports in Kiswahili and English
- Good working knowledge of MS Office
- Experience of working in the media sector in Tanzania, particularly local radio stations
- Experience of working with an NGO (or as part of a donor-funded project/activity)
- Knowledge and understanding of key governance issues in Tanzania
- Experience of working remotely
